The action RPG Dark and Darker became the surprise hit on Steam in 2022 and captivated 2 million players. However, after allegations of plagiarism, the game suddenly disappeared. Now it is finally going into Early Access, but for a German Twitch streamer, it comes at exactly the wrong time.
What kind of game is this? Dark and Darker is a hardcore extraction game similar to Escape from Tarkov, which relies on a fantasy setting with magic instead of guns. After initially great success on Steam, serious allegations were made against the game and Valve removed it from the platform.
To still proceed with the promised playtest, the developers resorted to creative means, with which you probably dealt for the last time in your youth. However, a better solution had to be found for the release.
On August 7, 2023, Dark and Darker was finally able to start Early Access, but on its own and with some limitations. You can find out more about this from the colleagues at GameStar. However, for a German Twitch streamer, the timing could hardly be worse.

What problem does the streamer have? For Wieland “Rumathra” Welte, it is first about survival alongside his buddy Trymacs . For the survival show 7 vs. Wild, they are traveling to Canada, where they must endure in the wilderness for two weeks.
This means: no gaming PC, no internet, and therefore no Dark and Darker. On Twitter, the Twitch streamer lamented on August 8, after he was able to at least try the game the day before. The next day, he sent out the “last tweet before 7 vs. Wild” (via Twitter).
Rumathra will now have to wait until he can dive back into the dark fantasy world. This also has its advantages, as his colleague GermanLetsPlay emphasizes: “When you are back, the first massive bugs will be fixed.”
But the Twitch streamer fears that the hot phase of the game might already be over by then, and other content creators may have already “played it out”. The internet, according to Rumathra, is very quick with such things. Moreover, he finds that the feeling of the early phase of such games is the best.
While Rumathra misses the early days of Dark and Darker, one plans to really profit from 7 vs. Wild. MontanaBlack said that while he “doesn’t have the guts” to participate himself, he wants to take advantage of the format from the safety of his home walls:
