You can surround yourself with many different companions and summoned allies in Baldur’s Gate 3. Alongside talking brains and flaming elementals, there are also zombies.
What kind of companions are we talking about? The companions we are writing about here are the Ancient Servants
, the Ancient Servants
. Essentially, they are quite formidable zombies that fight by your side. Here are the stats:
- Armor Class: 12
- Hit Points: 110
- Strength: 16 (+3)
- Dexterity: 10 (+0)
- Constitution: 15 (+2)
- Intelligence: 6 (-2)
- Wisdom: 10 (0)
- Charisma: 12 (+12)
The Ancient Servants also have darkvision up to 12 meters and can deal quite a bit of damage:
Their multi-attack can only be used against frightened opponents, but it deals between 5 and 12 slashing damage and between 3 and 18 additional necrotic damage. So, it’s always at least 5 damage, and at best it can be up to 33 – and that doubles due to the multi-attack.
The standard attack “Rotting Fist” deals the same damage, but simply. Additionally, it can trigger the condition Mummy Rot
, which reduces maximum hit points to 8 and prevents healing.
With Hellish Rebuke, you can also frighten opponents – which is a requirement for the multi-attack described above.
What are the requirements for the companion? To summon the mummy, you can be one of three classes at level 11:
- Warlock
- Cleric
- Wizard
Choose the level 6 spell Create Undead
. If you are not in any of the three classes, you can also use a ring to cast the same spell, the Crypt Lord Ring
.
How do you obtain the ring? The Crypt Lord Ring is the reward for completing a quest line in Act 3. You start it by gaining access to Philgrave’s manor.
You can shrink yourself and enter through a hole in the wall. Alternatively, you can examine and open a suspicious wall – spell knocking, a successful Arcana check, or brute force can help here. You’ll also find an entrance on the roof of the house, where you just need to pick the lock.
Inside the house, you will meet an NPC who tasks you with killing one of his missing servants. That servant is Thrumbo, an undead. He hides near the pile beach waypoint in a house. In front of a cabinet, you will find a trail of blood – follow it and loot the cabinet. Thrumbo will jump out at you.
Without giving too much away: If you want to obtain the ring, you need to side with Thrumbo and help him alive through the quest. Then he will gift you the ring.
Have you already summoned an undead to your side? Or do you have a completely different companion that always stands by you? Let us know in the comments.
Editor Leya Jankowski, on the other hand, is not fond of undead. She is currently lamenting the relationship of her character with a soulless lover that has not come to fruition: After 300 hours of Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a huge disappointment for me
