Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to come to Xbox this year
This is the issue: The development team behind Baldur’s Gate 3 faced a problem with the split-screen mode in the game. This was supposed to be integrated on the Xbox Series X, but also on the Xbox Series S, however, the performance of the split-screen was a challenge.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), developer Swen Vincke writes on August 24 that the team has now found a solution after meeting with Xbox head Phil Spencer. They can bring “Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox this year” as a result:
I am very pleased to confirm that after our meeting with Phil Spencer yesterday, we have found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox for the players this year. This is something we have been working on for a while.
All improvements will be included, including split-screen co-op on the Series X. The Series S will not have split-screen co-op but will also include cross-platform saving of progress between Steam and Xbox Series.

What does this mean for the Xbox Series S? The Xbox Series S has to do without the split-screen mode. According to the online magazine Kotaku, this means that online play together is not ruled out, but you would have to switch to a Series X if you want to control multiple characters on the same system (via Kotaku).
This is how the community reacts: A user writes that he is not waiting for the split-screen mode, but to finally be able to play the game (via X). Many users ask in the comments if the split-screen will be implemented later on the Xbox Series S. Some comment that the console probably isn’t powerful enough for that.
Although Baldur’s Gate 3 attracts many players, there are still a few stumbling blocks. There are persistent bugs in gameplay. Especially in the third act, difficulties are increasing, with some players reporting performance issues on their PCs.
