Scratch in Baldur’s Gate 3 is important. So important that he can even translate your main character to negotiate with demons.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are some exciting encounters with denizens of hell. Besides the archdevil Raphael, who constantly wants to tempt you, you will also meet the demonic Yurgir during the trials of Shar. Depending on the course of the conversation, he sees you as an enemy or a potential ally. However, the fight can be quite tough.
It’s even better when you don’t have to start the conversation yourself – but simply can send in the best dog of the game, Scratch.
There are many secrets in Baldur’s Gate 3:
What happened? In the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, ThrowRW_dependent reports that he made a small “mistake”. Instead of approaching the demon Yurgir with his hero party, he went to scout the area with Scratch.
A generally good way to explore the area – but Scratch was abruptly drawn into a dialogue with the archdemon Yurgir. Instead of talking to the hero party, it seems that Yurgir is satisfied just debating with the furry four-legged companion:
Why is this possible? Scratch is considered a full-fledged group member for some dialogues, treated almost like Tav (the main character). This means that Scratch can also trigger some dialogues that would normally require humanoid characters.
This leads to conversations like this one, where Scratch debates with the demon Yurgir. Since Scratch can give the exact same answers as Tav, it seems to be a glitch – albeit an amusing one.
That Yurgir can talk to animals is also not entirely illogical. The demon keeps a “Displacer Beast,” which he has subdued by garnishing its food with the saliva of a succubus – this makes the beast feel infatuated and loyal to the demon. Hopefully, Scratch doesn’t fall into the same trap.
Every loyal dog deserves a particularly heroic moment. And this Scratch will probably not forget how he defended his territory – or his party – in a conversation with a powerful demon.
You can also do a lot ‘wrong’ with other characters in Baldur’s Gate 3: A player recreates his girlfriend and doesn’t know what he’s doing.
