Larvae are a hot topic in Baldur’s Gate 3. Should you consume them? Or should you better ignore them? We give you a clear answer.
Baldur’s Gate 3 presents players with many difficult decisions. Often, the lives of NPCs depend on them, but in some cases, it is also about the life of your own hero. One decision you can make quite early on is related to the larvae of the Mind Flayers.

Should you eat the larvae in Baldur’s Gate 3? Basically, you can consume the larvae without much concern. They unlock a talent tree. Each larva you consume gives you another talent point. With this, you can unlock new abilities based on the powers of the Mind Flayers. This allows you to interrupt enemy spells, push back foes, or even heal.
However, part of the talent tree is still locked and can only be unlocked later in the game.
If you are mainly interested in raw power, you should consume the larvae.
What are the story implications? When you start consuming larvae, you not only unlock new abilities of the Mind Flayers but also some dialogues play out a little differently. The Guardian is somewhat more favorable towards you when you consume larvae.
Consuming a larva does not negatively impact your character, even if the narrator suggests this multiple times.
In addition, you can have some new dialogues with your companions and try to convince them to consume the larvae as well. Whether you succeed depends mainly on how much your companions trust you. If you have a good relationship with them, you can easily convince them. Otherwise, they will likely decline the offer.
If you manage to convince your companions, you can also give them larvae to teach them the talents of the Mind Flayers as well.
However, keep in mind that the number of larvae you can find in the game is very limited. Equipping multiple characters fully is practically impossible. So make sure to only give your companions talents that suit their playstyle.
