The right item at the right time can be absolutely crucial in Baldur’s Gate 3. Therefore, it’s worth checking all available merchants and stocking up well. However, there are secret merchants that you need to find or unlock – including a cat!
Basically, there are plenty of opportunities to spend your hard-earned gold in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, it is always beneficial to know all your options and make the best decision for yourself.
For that, you need to know all the options. Since not every merchant is freely available in the Emerald Grove or offers their goods in a store in Baldur’s Gate, we have compiled the hidden merchants for you by act.
Warning: Light spoilers for all three acts ahead!
Secret Merchants in Act 1 – Good Equipment, Good Start
In the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3, you can find and unlock three hidden merchants. Keep in mind that two of them require specific quest lines to even offer you anything.
Brem
When you are in Waukeen’s Rest, you can find a smuggler’s and mercenary hideout. It is located in the northeastern part of the village. To get inside, you need to locate a storage area and convince the guard stationed there to let you in.
Inside, you will find a group of Zentharim mercenaries. They are in the process of breaking down their tents and are understandably suspicious of you – be sure to watch out for the traps scattered throughout the camp.
To unlock the merchant Brem, you must convince the mercenaries that you are on the same side of the law as they are. It helps if you assisted the two Zentharim members in the cave along the Stiegstraße before your first visit. Just south of that point, you can also find and recruit Karlach.
Take the crate you need to defend unopened and don’t grab the item inside. This earns you the trust of the mercenaries.
Although merchant Brem will also offer you goods without the crate, he will only show you his really good stuff after you hand over the crate. By the way, you can also trigger an NPC with him that starts one of the most time-consuming quests.
Esther
If you move northeast past Waukeen’s Rest, you will come to the entrance of the mountain pass. If you enter it and keep to the right towards the gorge, you can meet Lady Esther.
The elderly lady is after the last Githyanki egg in the crib. You will find said crib in the monastery on the other side of the gorge. The Gith hold their egg in incredibly high regard, and whether you take it or not, and how, will affect your stay there.
You can either leave the crib without incident, or you will have to fight your way through a horde of rather tough Gith. But be warned: Do not offend in the crib. There is a decision that will kill you instantly.
If you can smuggle the egg out of the crib (however you manage), you can hand it over to her. If you do this, she will be available to you as a merchant.
Omeluum
The other path you can take leads you not into the mountains but through the Underdark. Early on, you can encounter a colony of disgruntled Duergar, the dwarves of the Underdark. They are having trouble with a colony of Myconids.
The mushroom creatures harbor a gnome who is at odds with the Duergar, as well as two other somewhat cryptic figures: the hobgoblin Blurg and the Ilithid Omeluum. The latter is a renegade member of his species looking for a brain-free diet.
Omeluum is very interested in your parasite, as it is different from what he knows. If you keep him alive and allow him to examine you, a new questline will start. At the end of it, he will also trade with you.
On page 2, you will find the secret merchants from Act 2, on page 3 the merchants in Act 3.
