Players in Baldur’s Gate 3 have come up with a particularly clever idea for New Year’s Eve. They plan a special fireworks display at the expense of a companion. MeinMMO reveals what it’s all about.

has come up with something very special to usher in the new year in the Game of the Year Baldur’s Gate 3
– they plan to blow up the beloved character Gale all at once tonight when the clock strikes twelve.
On X, a player named outstarwalker stumbled upon this spectacular idea and shared it on Facebook. The group, describing itself as a Meme-Shitposting-Community
on Facebook, which revolves around the “Baldur’s Gate” series and D&D in general, seems to have concocted the perfect plan to end 2023 with a bang – quite literally.
Fireworks at the push of a button
But who is Gale? For those wondering who the hell he is: he is an origin character in the critically acclaimed turn-based RPG Baldur’s Gate 3. There are several companions who can join your group – one of them is Gale.
Larian Studios has released a statistic showing that Gale is the most popular origin character, but he is often the reason why you die.
Spoiler: The following contains spoilers about Gale’s story.
Gale is a human mage and a true prodigy. Gale’s goal is to become the greatest mage of all time, and on his journey, he shines with his extensive knowledge and charming, empathetic nature.
How do they plan to blow up Gale? To understand the explosive idea, one must delve a little into Gale’s backstory. He has an insatiable thirst for magic, and in his chest lies a destruction sphere that could explode at any moment. To prevent this, he must constantly consume magical items.
However, during his questline, there is a chance to fix this problem. After an encounter with the powerful Elminster, he no longer needs magical food. Instead, the player gets a button on the hotbar to make Gale explode at any time.
The explosive execution
The creative minds at baldurawka have decided not to use this power in combat but to utilize it as the ultimate New Year’s fireworks. But how is that supposed to happen?
Here come three options into play:
- Blow him up yourself with the button on the hotbar at any arbitrary place, which means game over.
- At the end of the second act, Gale offers to blow himself up and eliminate the nasty enemies, which however leads to the end of the game.
- Another option appears at the end of the game (Act 3), where Gale wants to sacrifice himself. If you allow that, the scenes at the end continue, unlike in the sacrifice in the second act.
The Facebook group is unfortunately set to private, so it remains unclear whether they will blow up Gale at any place or specifically at certain sequences. But honestly, that’s probably the least important question in a venture as epic as a magical New Year’s fireworks display.
The idea of ushering in 2024 with an epic Gale fireworks display has its own charm.
