Fans constantly praise Baldur’s Gate 3 for the fact that the developers have truly considered and implemented every scenario in some way. Also, who they sell what to, as one player has now found out. He accidentally equipped a group of enemies with gear.
What happens to my loot?
- In itself, trading is quite easy to explain: you sell items that you no longer need and get gold for them. You can even trade with surprisingly many NPCs.
- Merchants do not do much with the purchased gear apart from selling it to you at a higher price.
- However, one player has discovered that sold equipment is actually distributed to other NPCs, who then defend themselves with exactly the stuff you left them.
By the way: The new Patch 5 is coming and should be so big that you might as well download the entire game again.
This is what the player reports: MKGSonic123 mentions on Twitter that he sold all sorts of useful things to the merchant in the Druid Grove – such as items that can cast Searing Ray. That is one of the strongest spells at the beginning.
Later on, he decided to raid the Druids, basically doing a “bad run”. This is a requirement, to recruit the Drow Minthara. Then came the surprise: the Druids used the purchased goods against him.
The user reports that Nettie and her colleagues had bombarded him with Searing Rays and also wore gear that he had sold to them previously. In the inner sanctum, there was finally a chest in which the Druids stored the purchased equipment that they did not use.
“Larian never ceases to impress me”
MKGSonic123 himself says he has already played 300 hours in the game, but this was new to him. Other users with even more hours agree: they didn’t know this either. Such interactions show how much thought the developers have put into the game.
It was known early on that Larian made an effort to consider all possibilities. This led to players fully expressing their creativity, such as climbing a city wall with boxes and skipping dialogues.
The community is now wondering where this interaction with trade goods would still be relevant. They are pondering whether Dammon might eventually become a Titan with tons of equipment. While we cannot fully verify the situation with the equipped camps, you should probably be cautious with:
- the Githyanki in the crib
- the Zhentarim under the inn
- the Goblins in the camp
They all have merchants and it is quite easy to start a quarrel with them. Since you are probably still not overpowered in Act 1, it could quickly happen that your two-handed sword+2, which you didn’t want to give to anyone in the group, is used against you.
You should consider carefully what you sell and what you do not:
