The more movement your character has in Baldur’s Gate 3, the better your chances are in combat. A YouTuber has now tested how fast his monk build can become when all possible buffs are used at once. The result: over 240 meters in a round.
What did the YouTuber do? YouTuber Chris Reven boosted his monk-rogue multiclass build with all the buffs and skills available to him to over 880 feet per round. That’s over 240 meters in 6 seconds, the standard length of a combat round.
Buffed like this, the player can sprint from the first spawn point in Act 3 to the middle of the town of Rivington. The character is faster than Usain Bolt at his peak, as well as faster than cheetahs, the currently fastest land animals.
Faster than Usain Bolt in Baldur’s Gate 3 – how did the YouTuber do it?
How does the character get so fast? To reach 240 meters per round, your character must meet the following requirements:
- Your race must be half-elf
- You must have invested in at least 6 levels of monk and 3 levels of rogue
- The ritual spell
Longstrider
must be active - You need the ring
Crusher’s Ring
that expands your movement range by 10 feet or 3 meters
With all these requirements, your standard range should be 80 feet or 24 meters per round.
Next, you start the turn-based mode. Chris Reven selects the companion Gale, who casts Haste
on the half-elf. The casting character does not have to be Gale. You only need a spellcaster with this spell. Alternatively, a scroll will also work.
Once Haste has been cast, the YouTuber selects his monk-rogue again and uses the monk ability Step of the Wind
. This doubles your movement rate for one round. Following Step of the Wind
is the regular Dash
as well as Cunning Action
. Both skills double your movement rate once again.
Your character should now be able to run 880 feet or over 240 meters per round.
If you want to test the build but don’t currently have a monk-rogue available, you can respec your character as explained in the video:
How useful is the build in combat? In fact, there are few applications for this boost. In a fight, you could get to more distant enemies faster. However, when a fight starts, your enemies are rarely more than 50 meters away.
You can escape from fights with speed and clever maneuvering. The aggro range
for enemies is 27 meters. However, only one of your characters is fast enough. This means the rest of your party of up to four will be left behind.
Additionally, you must be careful when maneuvering not to run too close to your enemies. They will get opportunity attacks otherwise. You should also keep in mind that your wizard has already used their action for this, and your sprinting character can no longer attack.
Can it go even faster? YouTube user Forgemane comments: Yes.
According to him, a strength-based monk would automatically have even more movement. This would also eliminate the bonus action cost of Jump
. If the spell Jump
is cast on oneself, 10 feet of jump (approx. 3 meters) can be converted into 90 feet (approx. 27 meters) jumps.
Theoretically, one could jump from the spawn point in Act 3 to the other side of the city of Baldur’s Gate. So across the entire map in just one round or six seconds.
Are you going to test the monk build? Or do you find the speed just pure overkill? Let us know in the comments.
By the way, there is a skill in the game that you really don’t need:
True Strike is the worst skill in Baldur’s Gate 3: It sounds amazing, but the effect is underwhelming.
