Today, November 30, Patch 5 for Baldur’s Gate 3 could still be released. The update will include a ton of changes and bug fixes. So many that Larian is issuing a warning in advance for anyone who might have insufficient storage space.
What is this patch?
- The upcoming Patch 5 is primarily aimed at fixing a performance issue, that prevents players from finishing Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Additionally, there are some improvements for the romance with Astarion. The full patch notes are still pending.
- Now the developers give on X, formerly Twitter, a first glimpse at the download size.
Update at 6:28 PM: The complete patch notes for Patch 5 are now available.
This is how big Patch 5 will be: The patch is supposed to be “only” about 30 GB – which is a considerable size by itself. However, a total of 130 GB is required for the download and installation. The game itself is only about 125 GB in size.
Larian says on X: if you don’t have that much storage space, you should simply uninstall Baldur’s Gate 3 and then download the new version with Patch 5 again.
In general, you do not need the new patch to play, as Baldur’s Gate 3 can also be played standalone. However, it is advisable to restart the game at the patch launch time and load the patch. If you do not do this, you run the risk of being excluded from all your save files.

In addition to bug fixes, there should also be “a few surprises.” Rumors speak of a Christmas event in the game, even though it is not a service game. There are also already plans for new features that will only be revealed in the next community update.
