The new Patch 5 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available for PC (Steam) and PS5. The patch notes are packed with changes. MeinMMO summarizes the most important aspects for you.
The highlights of Patch 5:
- Two completely new features are now in the game: a new ending and two new game modes. In the “Custom” mode you can set your adventure yourself, in the “Honour” mode enemies are tougher, bosses have new abilities, and there is a permadeath.
- Loads of performance improvements should ensure that Baldur’s Gate 3 no longer constantly lags in Act 3. Players on PS5 can enjoy dynamic resolution.
- Overall, the patch is said to be 30 GB in size, but you will need 130 GB for the download. Larian advises: If you don’t have enough storage, you should just reinstall the game.
Why should I replay the ending? There is now a completely new final scene based on the decisions you made in the game. The original ending is considered quite unsatisfactory.
The quasi “new Act 6” takes place half a year after the end of the game. All your companions will be present again, and you can talk to them. For all the decisions you made, there are brand new cutscenes.
If you have already finished the game, you can still check out the new ending: Larian explains that you can load a save file before the final battle. After that, you will see the new epilogue.
New game modes, performance improvements, and tons of bug fixes
The new Honour mode is primarily aimed at players seeking a challenge. Boss enemies receive “legendary actions” – these are special actions in D&D that only such bosses can perform and that they can use several times each round.
If you die in this mode, you will receive an overview of your achievements – the run ends there. You can continue playing, but the “Honour” mode will then end. If you make it to the end, you get an achievement and golden dice as a skin.
In addition, there are some bug fixes and especially updates for better game quality. You can now browse through the inventories of all characters in the camp, even if they are not in your group. Changes include:
- The hamster Boo no longer takes damage when thrown.
- Specific scenes in the romance with Astarion have been fixed.
- You can now loot Orin’s “costume” from her corpse, put it on, and … dye it (please don’t ask).
- Interactions of many characters, classes, and races have been fixed.
- You can find the full patch notes in the Larian forum.
A change that is dealt with in just one sentence is sure to please many players: Minthara now comments with a loving word when you are in a relationship. It may not be much, but it’s a step in the right direction for all Drow fans who have long been advocating for more content:
