Baldur’s Gate 3 aims to enhance the ending attractively, as it has received criticism. Here, the developers are making improvements and promise a new fate for Karlach.
The companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 are among the highlights of the game. It is all the more painful when, despite the best efforts, one cannot achieve a worthy ending for the comrades. This is especially a major point of criticism from the community in the case of the Tiefling Karlach.
However, with the next patch, the developers want to make improvements and promise: She will get the ending she deserves.

What is the problem with Karlach? The companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 have different endings depending on the choices you make. Almost always, there is also a positive or at least optimistic variant included. Currently, there is no “good” ending for Karlach in the game.
This is because Karlach has an infernal machine integrated into her chest that constantly overheats. While one can postpone the problems in the story for a while, there is no final solution for the machine.
This, in turn, leads to Karlach having to choose from different endings:
- She becomes a mind flayer and can live longer in this new form.
- She travels back to Avernus and thus into the influence of Zariel, who implanted this machine in her.
- She dramatically dies at the end because the machine overheats.
What is going to change now? The developers do not specify the exact changes, but they talk about a “new, alternative ending” for Karlach in the future. It will be “fiery, moving and give her the ending she deserves”.
It is likely that it will be a somewhat more positive ending that has already been found in the game data but was not present in the release version. There are already voice lines and sequences that remained unused in the final game and are now likely to be added.
When will it be ready? There is still no release date for the patch, but it is likely to be just a few days away. According to the developers, the patch is “right around the corner” – so it’s almost here. Therefore, for those who have not yet reached Act 3, there are good chances of enjoying the improved ending sequence on their first playthrough.
