On October 6th, the early access phase of the role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 began on Steam, GOG, and Google Stadia. We take a look at how the RPG is being received by players.
How did the launch go? The launch occurred on October 6th at 7:00 PM and was relatively smooth. Some players reported slow downloads, but overall it was a good start.
A very extensive RPG with early access issues
What are players’ opinions? On Steam, there are already more than 2,000 reviews for Baldur’s Gate 3. These are very positive, with 80%. Since it is still an early access version, not all content is available, and there are still technical problems and bugs.
Some players report that the game crashes, and for others, it even automatically uninstalled itself. Additionally, there are quests that cannot be completed correctly and balancing issues. Overall, however, it is nothing that one should not expect in an early access game.
However, there is some severe criticism regarding the price. At €59.99, Baldur’s Gate 3 is priced as a full-price game, without offering the full content. Some in the community find this outrageous. However, it should be noted that the 1st act of the RPG, which is playable in the early access phase, offers about 25 hours of gameplay. And of course, all buyers of the early access version will receive the full version for free upon release.
Anyone wanting to play BG 3 in multiplayer should wait a bit longer. There are reports indicating that the lag in multiplayer is so severe that the RPG is hardly playable together. However, Larian Studios has already announced they are working on a hotfix to address this issue.
Players find the storytelling and the narrative itself positive. The many possibilities as well as decisions and how they affect the course of the RPG are also mentioned positively. The tactical turn-based combat receives praise as well.
