The developers of Baldur’s Gate 3 have introduced the latest patch. There is a lot of new content – even new classes are included.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was already quite a large game at release, where you can spend hundreds of hours. With the patches, the game has grown even larger – most recently adding a variety of new evil endings. But Baldur’s Gate 3 is still not finished. The developers have now announced patch 8. This brings not only crossplay but also 12 new playable sub-classes.
12 new sub-classes
Which sub-classes are included in the patch? There are a total of 12 new sub-classes coming to the game with patch 8 that expand upon the already available classes. The developers have already revealed some details on Steam:
- Bard – College of Glamour: Give allies temporary hit points and charm enemies when those hit points are used up.
- Barbarian – Path of Giants: Benefit from increased strength, allowing you to throw things (or other creatures) in the face of enemies even harder.
- Cleric – Domain of Death: Deals necrotic damage and can make corpses explode.
- Druid – Circle of Stars: Utilize the power of constellations to be a better healer or ranged combatant.
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown: Swear to uphold the ruling laws and protect your allies while healing them at the same time.
- Fighter – Arcane Archer: Merge magic with archery to blind enemies or even temporarily banish them to another plane of existence.
- Monk – Drunken Master: Restore your Ki with alcohol and make enemies drunk while staggering to gain more armor.
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper: Summon various swarms to aid you in battle: jellyfish, moths, or bees that execute different attacks.
- Rogue – Swashbuckler: Dazzle enemies in melee combat, disarm them, and prevent opportunity attacks.
- Sorcerer – Shadow Magic: Gain improved dark vision, teleport from shadow to shadow, and even summon dark beasts.
- Warlock – Hexblade: Attack in melee with a cursed blade to impose your will on enemies – and resurrect the dead body for a few rounds.
- Wizard – Bladesinging: Use a weapon to cast spells and magically enhance your melee skills.
Cross-play finally for Baldur’s Gate 3
Also new in patch 8 is the full function of cross-progression and cross-play. Once the patch goes live, you can embark on adventures with friends on other systems. You can create mixed groups where participants use either PC or console. This will run through the Larian network.
The days of having to play on the same platform are over.
What else is included in the patch? Aside from the gameplay highlights, there are also a few small treats, such as an extensive photo mode. Here, you can not only have your characters strike various poses but also hide annoying NPCs and, of course, freely position the camera. This should make for some special screenshots.
When is patch 8 coming out? There is no concrete date for the patch yet, but it is likely still a few months away. The “stress test” for the patch is not scheduled to start until January. Thus, no one should expect a release before February 2025. Considering the amount of content that is coming, however, the wait should be worth it.
If you want to bring a little fresh air to the adventures of Baldur’s Gate 3 before patch 8 is released, then you can install various mods to experience new things. One has looked at all the mods and explicitly recommends these 10.
