The makers of Baldur’s Gate 3 have announced Patch 3. It will be released on Friday, September 22, and finally brings the Magical Mirror to your camp. With it, you can customize the appearance of your characters, although with limitations.
What is this feature?
- You can customize your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3 with the upcoming Patch 3, even after you have already created your character. This was revealed by Larian on Twitter.
- Previously, it was only possible to respec your character and play a different class. However, the appearance remained the same.
- The extensive customization options that even allow you to choose genitals led players to desire the ability to change their appearance later on.
You can customize: Larian explains that with the new Magical Mirror in the camp, you can change both the appearance and the voice and pronouns of a self-created character (‘Tav’).
The body type and the race remain fixed. We do not know the reasoning behind the decision regarding body types. Races have different abilities and sometimes even selection options in the game.
Origins, meaning all predefined characters like Karlach, Lae’zel, and others, cannot be changed at all.
Patch 3 is so important that it had to be delayed
Patch 3 was originally scheduled to be released on September 21. However, the developers needed to conduct further tests and fix bugs in the patch, which is why the patch will be deployed the following day.
Larian had previously made the mistake of releasing a patch too early. The consequence was that it had to be rolled back. Players who played in the meantime could no longer access their save data. This caused frustration.
Since the release on PS5, Patch 3 is the first major update. Accordingly, Larian seems to want to be more cautious. However, further content is not yet known. We assume that performance issues or crashes on PS5 will be a topic.
By the way, some important people have also misjudged the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 – including Larian itself:
