The role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 is now over a year old. Now one of the heads announces that it is currently more popular than at the same time last year and even gives the reason for it.
Is Baldur’s Gate 3 now more popular than last year? According to a post thread on X.com by Michael Douse it is. Initially, he is pleased with the still vibrant sales of the game. Recently, it was even sold twice in the Vatican.
Then Douse gets specific. According to him, the stats of Baldur’s Gate 3 compared to the same period last year look as follows:
- The daily player peaks are 3% higher.
- The daily active users are 20% higher.
- The average Steam Deck player numbers are 61% higher.
For these very good numbers over a year after the release, Michael Douse even has a very concrete explanation.

Why is that? For Michael Douse, there is a very clear explanation for the good numbers: The newly introduced mod support.
With the last major patch, Baldur’s Gate 3 introduced official mod support. While there were already mods on Steam and platforms like Nexusmods before, now they can mostly be selected and managed directly in the game. This makes usage worlds easier.
The mod support is, by the way, enough reason for some players to go for a second, third, or even sixth run: Reddit user Glorf_Warlock writes that the mods make the gameplay feel fresh again.
