Baldur’s Gate 3 is already a bestseller on Steam before its release, even surpassing the surprise hit of the summer

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently climbing the Steam bestsellers – the full release is still yet to come.

What kind of game is it?

• Baldur’s Gate 3 is the latest installment of the eponymous role-playing series, which was first launched in the 90s.
• The predecessor, Baldur’s Gate 2, was released over 20 years ago.
• Baldur’s Gate is a turn-based role-playing game in an isometric perspective and also a spinoff of Dungeons and Dragons.
• The game is developed by Larian Studios and is set to be released on August 3, 2023, for PC.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been playable in Early Access since October 6, 2020, but is experiencing another surge just before the release of the full version.

It is not the first time that the role-playing game has taken Steam by storm. Already in December 2021, Baldur’s Gate 3 was among the best-selling games on the platform.

• Only CS:GO and the newly released strategy game Xenonauts 2 are ahead of the role-playing game from Larian Studios.
• The currently hyped shooter BattleBit is in 4th place, just behind.
• In 5th place, Jagged Alliance 3 follows, a strategy game that is particularly popular among German players.

Also behind Baldur’s Gate is the surprise hit of the summer, Dave The Diver, in which you play a hefty diver exploring the mysterious and dangerous deep sea.

The bestseller positioning of Baldur’s Gate 3 is also reflected in the player numbers. While the role-playing game had an average of 2,107 players on Steam in June 2023, in the past 30 days, which still partially includes June, it has averaged 5,777 (as of July 18, 2023, via SteamCharts)

Additionally, the peak of simultaneous players rose from 4,271 in June to 21,799 players.
