Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a way to increase your attributes in the final act by using the Mirror of Loss. However, this requires passing difficult skill checks. We will show you how to ensure that you succeed in the checks.
Spoiler: The article contains minor spoilers for Act 3.
Where can I find the Mirror of Loss? You will find the Mirror of Loss in the third act in the House of Mourning, which you need to locate for the quest from Shadowheart, Daughter of Darkness
. The house is located in the northwestern part of the Undercity of Baldur’s Gate.
In the house, you will also encounter some challenges, which we will not cover in this article. Instead, we will focus on how you can gain +2 to attributes of your choice through the Mirror of Loss.
How to easily pass the Religion check
What exactly can I do with the mirror? By using the mirror, you can receive a permanent +2 bonus to any attribute of your choice in exchange for your memories. However, to achieve this, you must pass a difficult Religion check of 25.
Any character can use the mirror, allowing you to significantly boost your stats. However, you will also receive a debuff, which you can remove with the spell Break Curse
.
How do I pass the check? The check is not a problem for you if you save beforehand and reload the old save repeatedly until you succeed at the check. However, there is a trick for the Honour mode (no save scumming allowed) shared by a player named Historical_Age_9921 on Reddit to pass the Religion check almost every time.
What is this trick? The key to passing the skill checks lies in proper preparation and class choice. First, you will bring your character to Withers to reset your class and choose a new one.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Make your character a Cleric
- Boost your Intelligence to 16
- Choose Religion as Proficiency
- Take the cantrip Guidance
- Multiclass: Choose Rogue at Level 2 and select Expertise in Religion
- Level up to Level 12 in Rogue, choose the Feat
Ability Improvement
to increase your Intelligence to 20 - If you don’t have a Bard yet, switch your class with another character
- Now give your Cleric/Rogue Guidance and Bardic Inspiration, which will allow you to succeed at the check almost every time
Why does this work? You get +5 from your Intelligence roll, +8 from your Expertise, at least +1 from Guidance, and at least +1 from Bardic Inspiration.
As a Rogue, you have the class feature Reliable Talent
. So, when you make a skill check with a skill you are proficient in, the lowest die result is always a 10. So, if you roll a 2-9, it is automatically calculated as a 10. This guarantees that you will reach 25 on the skill check unless you roll a 1. A 1 is always an automatic failure.
Note: Some players report in the Reddit thread that there is a chance the mirror will lose interest, preventing you from receiving the bonus. In that case, you can reload the save (except in Honour mode).
After that, you can go back to Withers and respec without losing the permanent buff.
