In Baldur’s Gate 3 there are numerous weapons, including legendary weapons. With Shadowheart, you can grab a powerful legendary spear. MeinMMO will tell you how to do it.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains groundbreaking story spoilers about Shadowheart and Act 2.
Baldur’s Gate 3 holds numerous surprises. Towards the end of Act 2, you have the opportunity to snag a legendary spear. But this treasure doesn’t simply come into your possession. You must face a tricky battle and make a significant decision.
We will show you how this works.
What kind of weapon is this? This weapon is a legendary spear. This legendary spear not only comes with a weapon enchantment of +3 but also has powerful advantages:
- Darkvision: You can now see up to 12m in the dark.
- The spear can be wielded one-handed and two-handed.
- Class action “Moon Dust”: Illuminates the area around you with moonlight, making movement difficult for enemies and strengthening the damage of your allies. Any enemy in the light must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw at the start of their turn, or the lit area is considered difficult terrain for them. Any ally in the light adds an additional 1-4 radiant damage on a melee attack.
- Spell “Moonbeam” (description in the image)
- Selûne’s Blessing: You gain advantage on Wisdom saving throws and Perception checks.

What makes the weapon so strong? Moonbeam proves to be a powerful spell that can inflict significant damage on your enemies if positioned correctly. Darkvision is also extremely useful, especially if you haven’t acquired it yet. Likewise, you benefit from the advantage on Wisdom saving throws and Perception checks.
As a Moon Druid, for example, you have the option to use Moon Dust or Moonbeam against your enemies, then transform into a form of your choice while maintaining your concentration. However, note that Moonbeam must be precisely placed, as you cannot shift it during your turn in your transformed form.
Getting Selûne’s Night Spear – Here’s How
Here’s how to reach Night Song: After bravely battling through the Shadowlands in Act 2 and exploring the Shar Temple “Trials of Shar” with Shadowheart, a significant decision now awaits regarding Shadowheart and Night Song. You must now ask yourself the question: Should Night Song be killed or not? Do you want Shadowheart to remain loyal to Shar or defy her goddess?
It is crucial to ensure that you have acquired the Night Spear from the Silent Library and possess all four Shadow Gemstones (one is found in Yurgir’s chamber) before entering the final section.
- Coordinates for the Night Spear – X: -755 Y: -754
Now you can enter Shadowfell to encounter Night Song. To do this, step into the luminous water basin and prepare for the confrontation with Night Song. If you left Balthazar alive, he will reappear here in Shadowfell.

Fight against Balthazar: You must master this fight. A good trick is to ambush him stealthily before he can speak. Instead of jumping into dialogue, simply sneak behind Balthazar.
- Counterspells make this fight significantly easier. He will cast “Raise Dead” to summon a bunch of skeletons. You can counter this spell with a counterspell.
- Paladins and Clerics make this fight much easier with their bonuses against undead; Shadowheart can, for example, turn undead with her Channel Divinity.
After the fight with Balthazar, you will be thrown into a conversation with Night Song.
The crucial dialogue with Night Song: The conversation with Night Song is of great importance. It is no easy task to convince Shadowheart not to kill Night Song. She has a strong desire to eliminate Night Song. Use all your persuasion skills to convince Shadowheart otherwise. Only then can you obtain Selûne’s legendary spear.

Here’s how to proceed with convincing:
Choose one of these two decisions in the first dialogue option:
- Choose your own path, Shadowheart. You must not let yourself be controlled by your goddess.
- Beg, Shadowheart. Don’t do that.
Next, select the second dialogue option, where you must achieve a high Charisma check – a 30. It’s best to save the game before the check. Once you make the check, Shadowheart will throw the Night Spear off the cliff.
With Night Song, you have gained an ally in the fight against Ketheric. As a reward, you will first receive a Moonlight Glaive and later the legendary Selûne Spear.
Kill Ketheric Thorm: Now you need to defeat Ketheric Thorm, which is still a lengthy process and part of the main quest. Throughout the main quest in Act 2, ensure that Isobel and Night Song survive. Talk to both of them and invite them to your camp. At the end of Act 2, the two will be waiting for you at the camp.
Now you will receive Selûne’s Night Spear: After defeating Ketheric Thorm and Night Song has survived, you can have a conversation with Night Song in the camp. Bring Shadowheart and talk with Night Song. She will finally have answers for Shadowheart, and at the end of the conversation, you will receive the legendary weapon Selûne’s Night Spear.
What happens to the spear if I kill Night Song? If you kill Night Song with Shadowheart, you will also receive a legendary spear – instantly. This is the ideal choice if you’re looking for a weapon that boosts your strength in the dark and grants the ability to create darkness itself with a bound spell. However, in my opinion, Moonbeam and Moon Dust are significantly stronger.
What Shar’s Evening Spear can do:
- Shar’s Blessing: You gain advantage on saving throws when you are lightly or heavily obscured. This weapon deals an additional 1d6 damage to creatures that are also obscured.
- Blind Immunity: The bearer of the spear cannot be blinded.
- Spell Shar’s Darkness: Creates a cloud of magical darkness, heavily obscuring and blinding creatures within it. Creatures cannot make ranged attacks in or out of the cloud.
- Weapon Enchantment +3
If you wield the spear, you always have an advantage in the dark cloud against creatures because you cannot be blinded.
