Only a few have seen a boss fight in Baldur’s Gate 3. No wonder, it’s hard to discover.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite large, even for an RPG. It is virtually impossible to see all the content in a single run, as you can make many different decisions. However, some areas of the game are so well hidden that they remain forever concealed from most players.
One of these hidden boss fights occurs just before the final battle of the game – but it is optional and very easy to overlook.
Where can you find the boss fight? In Act 3 of the game, after you decide to head into the final battle. After gathering your allies and giving a motivational speech, you continue to the notorious big “courtyard fight”. However, you can bypass this by moving all the way north on the map and jumping down from the tower to a lower level (ideally with feather fall). Here you will find a metal grate, which cannot be opened in the usual way but can be blasted open with force.
Behind the grate, you will find access to the sewers of the upper city of Baldur’s Gate. Along with some rats and a weak goblin, you will encounter the death knight Stalker Svignee, who will prevent you from proceeding.
By the way, you can learn about the access point by casting “Speak with Dead” on the deceased city guards to get this information.
What does the fight bring? Basically, Stalker Svignee is not a particularly tough fight, even though he has some devastating spells. Upon his death, he drops a few “Potion of Angelic Slumber”, which can be very useful in upcoming battles, especially on higher difficulty levels.
Besides that, this fight mainly serves as an alternative to avoid having to deal with the very long fight in the courtyard. The fight in the courtyard is not necessarily difficult, but it takes a long time and can consume some resources if things don’t go exactly according to plan.
What is the story behind Stalker Svignee? Apart from being a death knight, it is not entirely clear who he is. Interestingly, he has a familiar face with him: Minthara. If you did not kill the drow in Act 1 but only knocked her out and did not recruit her for your group, you will have to fight her again here. Minthara is now at level 12 – if you stripped her of her armor in Act 1, it has not been replaced.
Have you already mastered this fight or even discovered it? Or have you passed it by every time so far?
