Warning, Spoilers: The following text contains spoilers for Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to find the Adamant Forge: During the main story in Act 1, you will receive the quest The Adamant Forge
. In this quest, you will be tasked with finding and activating the forge. Along the way, you will also have to fight the boss Guardian Grym
.
There are several ways to enter the Underdark:
- Entrance to the Underdark in
Desecrated Temple
. - Entrance to the Underdark in
Whispering Depths
. - Entrance to the Underdark in the
Tea House by the River
. - Entrance to the Underdark in the
Zhentarim Hideout
.
Once you arrive in the Underdark, you will need to head southwest on the map. Several boats and a large ship are anchored there, which you must board. After that, you will automatically sail to the next location and the waypoint Underdark – Grym Forge
.
However, to actually reach the forge, you will need to overcome a few obstacles, along the way you can also collect one of several forge molds and mithral ores. You can see the molds by holding down the ALT key, while you can recognize the ore by its blue glowing color.
What comes next? To reach the forge, teamwork is required. From the waypoint, head south up a staircase and follow the corridor and further stairs. Then you will need to climb down a ladder and activate two switches on a platform.
Then you jump onto a bridge and must leave one character behind to activate the switches again. Alternatively, you can help yourselves with flying or super jumps.
After that, you will split your group. On the left side, you will find two switches and also one of the casting molds. You must leave at least one member at the switches.
The rest of the group heads north, where you must follow a path of hanging bridges. You can hardly get lost, the path is straightforward. At the end, there is again a moving platform.
With the help of the switch, you can now move the bridge sections back and forth. Behind the end of this bridge, you will reach the waypoint “Underdark – Ancient Fort.” You can teleport the character who was previously at the switch from there.
The forge itself is located at coordinates X: -569 Y: 252.

Activate the Adamant Forge in Baldur’s Gate 3 and defeat the boss
How do you use the forge? Upon reaching the forge, you will need to place a casting mold and mithral ore into the container. You can find a casting mold in the room where the new waypoint is located. After that, activate the lever of the forge, and it will start its work.
However, upon the first use, the guardian Grym will appear, whom you must fight next. He has massive resistances to conventional damage types, so you will need to utilize the forge itself to defeat the boss:
- There is a valve with which you can flood the room with lava. Grym receives a debuff from this. However, make sure that your characters do not come into contact with the lava.
- There is also a forge lever that allows you to drop an anvil in the middle of the room. This deals significant damage to Grym.

Use the Adamant Forge and craft powerful items
What can you craft in the forge? There are different molds for the forge from which equipment items can be crafted:
- Crumpled Saber Mold – Grymforge (X: -607 Y: 322)
- Shield Mold – Grymforge (X: -559 Y: 410)
- Mace Mold – Grymforge (X: -609 Y: 284)
- Longsword Mold – Grymforge (X: -625 Y: 410)
- Plate Armor Mold (Armor) – Grymforge (X -597 Y: 309)
- Scale Armor Mold (Armor) – Grymforge (X: -621 Y: 260)
Place the molds along with the mithral ore into the forge, then pull the lever. The item will then be crafted. Especially the two armors are very useful and considered the best equipment from Act 1.
Note: There is only enough mithral ore for two equipment pieces. So think carefully about what you want to craft.
These two armors are among the best items from Act 1
What can the armors do? The Adamant Plate Armor is a heavy armor weighing 19 kg. It has an armor class of 18 and four special effects:
- Incoming damage is reduced by 2.
- Attackers cannot land critical hits anymore.
- When a melee attacker hits you, they will be staggered for 3 rounds.
- Disadvantage on stealth rolls.
The Adamant Scale Armor is a medium armor weighing 12 kg. It has an armor class of 16 and also has four very similar effects:
- Incoming damage is reduced by 1.
- Attackers cannot land critical hits anymore.
- When a melee attacker hits you, they will be staggered for 2 rounds.
- Disadvantage on stealth rolls.
