In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are tons of decisions that influence the events. One player invited their favorite character to their camp and then experienced their worst nightmare.
Which character is it about? It’s about the tiefling bard Alfira, whom you can meet early in the game. Alfira is one of the refugees from Elturel, seeking protection from the goblins in the Emerald Grove. She plans to travel to Baldur’s Gate and hopes to further improve her musical talent.
She is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, and many players still wish she were a companion – which she currently is not.
Spoiler: The article contains spoilers about the Dark Urge
in Act 1.
According to his friend Optimus Alex
on reddit, one player started their first playthrough as the Dark Urge
. They had wished since their first playthrough that Alfira would join the group.
Because in a run without the Dark Urge
, there isn’t even the option to invite her to the camp.
What mistake did the player make? Without realizing what awaited them, the player helped Alfira in the Emerald Grove. When he spoke to her, she said: I want to join you – fight at your side. I want to help people – just as you helped me.
Filled with excitement, he messaged Optimus Alex and wrote: Wait a minute. Was that an option the whole time? You knew it the whole time and didn’t tell me?
Optimus Alex replied: Oh. Oh Buddy.
On Reddit, he shares that he couldn’t bring himself to tell him what terrible consequences this would have.

The fate of Alfira if you play the Dark Urge
What terrible consequences? When playing as the Dark Urge
, one of the six origin characters, he plays a killer with a dark past. However, the Dark Urge
can no longer remember the deeds and the past.
One currently unavoidable plot point is that Alfira joins the group with the Dark Urge
and is murdered by the player character. Regardless of whether you’ve spoken to Alfira beforehand or not. She will always come to your camp and be your victim.

I was SO excited to have her as a companion. I had just started a new run when the latest update came out, and I thought it was part of the new update, but NO. I’ve never experienced such an emotional rollercoaster.

There is a trick to save her: You can save Alfira, but for that, you must kill another bard named Quil. To save Alfira, you need to knock her unconscious with non-lethal attacks
before you take a long rest. The event will be triggered depending on your progress. Some players say that the event is triggered at the next long rest after you first cross the bridge towards the Destroyed Village
.
So you can also reload the last save when Alfira appears in your camp. Then you go to Alfira and knock her out with the non-lethal attacks. The non-lethal attacks are a passive setting that you can turn on and off.
What does the community say? The player is not alone with the experience; many other people from the community were also looking forward to Alfira as a companion and were shocked when they ultimately killed the bard. We have summarized a few comments for you:

I did the same. I started my first Durge run right after a patch update, and when we got to that scene, I was just excited and said, “They just went and did it damn it, I LOVE LARIAN.” I think I went through all seven stages of grief. […]
- iWentRogue writes:
At this point, we need a therapy subreddit for Durge players who unknowingly recruited Alfira.
- SproutsaurusRex puts it bluntly:
I was horrified.
