Little is as valuable in Baldur’s Gate 3 as the limited spell slots of your magic-using classes. There are a total of nine spells in the game that don’t even require a spell slot and can almost always be cast: We present to you the ritual spells.
What are ritual spells? A spell marked as “ritual” can also be used without a spell slot. The character requires 10 in-game minutes, but does not consume any of the valuable slots. Ritual casting in combat becomes impossible.
It’s called a ritual because the spells must be cast in a ritual in the pen & paper template: The character takes the time to concentrate on the spell accordingly. For example, a druid might sit in a circle of leaves and meditate. A wizard could focus on their arcane focus. Perhaps even the focused preparation of a cup of tea would suffice, or a structured celebration is required.
Once the ritual is complete, the spell finally takes effect. A reddit user discovered which spells can be cast as rituals after 50 gameplay hours.
Ritual spells can be repeatedly cast and are not subject to restrictions.
What are the prerequisites? The character must generally be able to cast spells. Sorcerers, clerics, wizards, and druids can inherently cast ritual spells. All other classes require the “Ritual Caster” feat to choose two ritual spells.

Ritual Spells in Baldur’s Gate 3 – An Overview
Below we present the nine ritual spells that can be used in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Feather Fall: The name directly indicates the effect of the spell: It protects you and your companions from falling damage. If you don’t currently have a magic-using companion in your group, you can also use a scroll of Feather Fall or a corresponding potion.
Detect Thoughts: Have you always wanted to know what your opponents think of you? The spell “Detect Thoughts” is just the right one for you. But be careful: The spell can also be used as a regular spell. So keep an eye on what is currently selected.
Longstrider: … gives your character or another creature three meters more movement range per turn. It is not as effective as “Haste”, but as a ritual spell it is cheaper for you.
Speak with Animals: “Speak with Animals” can also be cast as a ritual. The effect remains active until the next long rest, but only affects yourself. This spell also does not require concentration.
Our tip: Cast the spell immediately after a long rest to be prepared for any possible encounters with animals.
Speak with Dead: This necromancy spell gives you the ability to call back corpses within a radius of nine meters for five questions. However, not everyone wants to talk to you, especially not if you were the ones who sent them to the afterlife.

Alter Self: Here too, the name indicates exactly what the spell does: You change your appearance! Besides classic things like disguising as someone else, the spell can also help you squeeze through narrow spaces.
Enhance Jump: Some abysses can be crossed with a long jump. However, if your character does not have enough jump distance, they can gain the missing meters with this spell. This is also helpful when a raised ledge cannot be reached normally.
Silence: This spell creates a dome of silence. There is no sound inside. This is especially relevant if it is placed over or in the way of other magic-using characters.
Find Familiar: A “familiar” is a creature that you summon. In Baldur’s Gate 3, this can be a spider, a raven, a frog, a cat, a crab, or a rat. In the pen & paper template, they are often used by wizards as assistants. In the game, they fight alongside you depending on their abilities.
