Larian Studios has announced the modding toolkit that many players have been waiting for since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3. You can find all the important information here.
What is it all about? The modding toolkit is a feature for Baldur’s Gate 3 that players have been waiting for a while, but until now there was no specific timeframe.
On x.com, the studio has now announced that you can use the official modding toolkit starting with Patch 7. “So you can bring your wildest ideas to life,” says the studio’s announcement.
Currently, you can already install mods in Baldur’s Gate 3, but you need to obtain them from respective mod sites and possibly install them with external programs. It always depends on where you got the mods from and what they were created with.
With the modding toolkit, it should become much easier because Baldur’s Gate 3 mods will then be officially supported. This will make it easier to create and install mods. It will run through mod.io, providing players with the ability to install and manage mods on PC and consoles.
For now, the modding toolkit will only be usable on PC. Support for PS5, Xbox, and Mac is expected to follow soon. You can find more information in the FAQ of the official Steam announcement.
When will Patch 7 start? As a player, you will have to wait a bit longer for Patch 7. Currently, the testing for this patch is divided into two phases. Today, on June 3, 2024, the closed alpha test is set to begin. According to the official announcement on Steam, Larian plans to gradually invite more people.
A closed beta test is scheduled for July, for which players can pre-register to get one of the 1,000 spots. However, to participate in the test, you must play the PC version.
After reviewing the feedback and taking some time to revise everything, Patch 7 is expected to officially start in September 2024.
What else is coming with Patch 7? Along with the modding toolkit, Patch 7 will also bring a few other innovations and improvements, which Larian will elaborate on later. Among other things, in September you can expect the “evil endings” in Baldur’s Gate 3.
