The new hotfix 16 for Baldur’s Gate 3 apparently causes a wave of bugs with quest items. Some players report that they can no longer complete important quests. MeinMMO reveals what is behind this.
Players of Baldur’s Gate 3 have been struggling with issues following the recent hotfix 16 from Larian Studios. The hotfix, which was released as a relatively small patch, brought numerous changes and bug fixes with it, including the following highlights:
- Waypoints are now sorted into categories, making it clearer.
- You can now immediately access certain quest-related items, even if they are in the storage chest or in a companion’s inventory at the camp.
- A bug with Gale’s dialogue that abruptly ended when you asked him after a kiss has been fixed.

Despite these bug fixes and improvements, some players have encountered difficulties, particularly in relation to quest items.

What problems are there? After hotfix 16, players are increasingly reporting on reddit and X about difficulties in using certain quest items to successfully complete quests. The game would not recognize existing items correctly. Players suspect that hotfix 16 is responsible for this.
Some report that the game occasionally does not recognize that a player has access to important quest-related items like the Spear of Night or the Dark Amethyst.

For many players, there was also a simple solution: Turn off the mods. After turning off the mods, many players found that it worked again.
