The most endings in Baldur’s Gate 3 are known. But one is so strange that you can only see it with a lot of luck.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, there are numerous different endings. Although it is not the 17,000 different endings that were once roughly mentioned, there are still some differences. Depending on which party members you have, which final decisions you make, and whom you helped to the end with various problems, the ending can be shaped.
However, one ending is likely so rare that only a handful of players have seen it so far.
Where does it come from? In the subreddit of Baldur’s Gate, the user gwiguig showed some pictures from the game of his fiancée. She apparently experienced this during her first playthrough and was accordingly amused by it because: All heroes were transformed into dogs and cats in the final moments.
What triggers it? This ending is caused by the “Wild Magic” trait, which can occur in a few subclasses. Wild Magic has a chance to trigger a random effect when casting spells (or triggering certain effects, such as Rage). Most of these effects are actually useful – such as temporary flying for your character or a boost that allows you to take another action.
One of the effects, however, is also “Wild Shape” – this turns all creatures in a certain radius into mostly harmless cats and dogs.
This very effect was triggered in the final round of the last battle.
The problem: The effect continues even afterward and remains active in all subsequent cutscenes. Instead of a dramatic ending sequence where all characters reflect on their lives again… they do so as dogs and cats.
Although the ending and the emotional weight of the last minutes are thus somewhat ridiculed when suddenly cats and dogs talk about the future of their being, the ending is still quite amusing.
Or, as gwiguig summarizes it: ‘Game of the decade, thank you Larian.’
