Fortnite (PC, PS4 & Xbox One) still only has one map, while PUBG already has its third map available. Are the developers planning to add more soon? Find out here the answer from Epic.
Fortnite: Battle Royale started out as a playful experiment with Battle Royale elements like PUBG and quickly became a huge success. However, you still fight on the same map, even though it has changed significantly over time.
But isn’t it about time to create a new map for Fortnite? Rumors about a new map are already circulating on the internet. In PUBG, there are already 2 big maps, and a third, smaller map is currently in development. Even in the official FAQ of “Fortnite,” it states:
So when will Fortnite: Battle Royale get a new map?
Developers Focus on a Lively Map
In an interview with IGN, Lead Designer Eric Williamson was also asked about new maps in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The developer had a pretty simple answer.
The team at Epic Games indeed discussed bringing new maps into the game. However, “there’s no urgency to create a new map right now”. That is currently not a priority. Instead, it is much more important to continue developing and keeping the existing map fresh.
Players Should Keep an Eye Out for Changes to the Map
During the interview, Williamson advised that players should keep an eye out for “changes” to the map soon. This seems to announce new features in the upcoming weeks.
He is possibly referring to the impending impact of the comet that has ominously hovered over the map for months and is getting closer.
Currently, players are already speculating whether the meteor will destroy the controversial location Tilted Towers or if it will usher in the 4th season of the Battle Pass.
Fortnite continues to receive new features. Soon a new light machine gun is expected to come as a weapon for Fortnite: Battle Royale.
