Fortnite cakes can bring joy to any fan and become a highlight of a birthday party. Our author Eilyn shows you her recipe with pictures so that you can bake a cake yourself.
I will show you the entire process and how you can bake the Fortnite cake yourself, if you want to make a Fortnite fan happy or are looking for an activity when the servers are down again.
You will need these ingredients for the Fortnite cake
These are all the ingredients you need for the chocolate batter and the decoration. I baked the batter in a baking pan with a diameter of 26 cm.
You can adjust the ingredients according to the size of your baking pan. If you don’t like chocolate, you can simply skip the cocoa powder.
Ingredients – Batter
You will need:
- 6 eggs
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
- 225g sugar
- 140g flour
- 45g cornstarch (Maizena)
- 40g cocoa powder (I used regular cocoa powder)
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
All of these ingredients should be available at a grocery store.
Ingredients – Filling
For the filling, I chose whipped cream. It tastes good and is not difficult to make.
You will need for the filling:
- 1 package of whipped cream (500ml)
- 1 packet of cream stabilizer (ensures stiff whipped cream)
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar
Decoration with Fondant
To make it a Fortnite cake, you obviously need the right decoration. You can order it online or, as I did, simply make it yourself.
For the decoration, I used different fondants (a colored sugar mass). I ordered them from a bakery online and received them by post.
However, you can also pick them up at the bakery.
These are the colors I used:
- Baby blue
- Black
- White
- Purple
- Green
- Brown
You need to make these preparations beforehand
First, you need to preheat the oven. Since every oven is different, you need to assess how many degrees you need.
Normally, it is recommended:
- Top/Bottom heat 180°C
- Circulation 150°C
However, I had to preheat my gas oven to 200°C. So it may vary.
Next, you can prepare the baking pan. Line the bottom and sides with baking paper. Do not grease with butter!

How to prepare the cake batter
Now we come to the first part of the preparation: The batter
1. Whip egg whites
First, you need to separate all the eggs. You separate the egg whites from the yolks. It’s best to make a small hole at the top of the egg and slowly empty the egg white.
Pour the egg whites directly into the large bowl where you will prepare the batter.
Once you have separated all the eggs, add a pinch of salt to the egg whites. Now whisk them until foamy with the mixer.

2. Add sugar and vanilla sugar
Now you should gradually add sugar and vanilla sugar. It’s best to measure the sugar and mix it with the packet of vanilla sugar.
You can then pour this mixture directly over your egg white foam. Always add a little at a time and mix it in first.
You need to whisk until a white meringue forms and looks like this:
3. Add egg yolks
Now you should add the yolks one by one that you separated from the egg whites. It’s best to get a helper who adds the yolks while you whisk.
The mixture will take on a pastel color and looks like this:
4. Add dry ingredients
Measure out the flour, starch, cocoa powder, and baking powder. You can then sift this mixture over the batter. It’s best to pour it into the sieve and tap against it with your palm.
Important: Do not use a mixer here anymore! Use a spatula or large spoon to fold in the ingredients.

5. Into the pan and into the oven!
The finished mixture just needs to be poured into the baking pan and put in the preheated oven.
The baking time is about 30-40 minutes. You can check if it’s done by doing a toothpick test.
Let it cool for 10 minutes and remove from the pan. To let the cake cool completely, leave it standing for a few hours. Otherwise, it will crumble when cutting.
The filling must still go in
Filling the cake is quite simple. You just need to:
- Put whipped cream, sugar, vanilla sugar, and cream stabilizer in a bowl
- Whisk with the mixer until the cream becomes firm
Once the whipped cream is ready, you can spread it evenly between the layers and cover the entire cake with it.
Finally, the decoration!
The cake is baked and filled. Now it should become a real Fortnite cake.
For this, the right decoration is needed. I chose a simple design that is not difficult to create.
Decoration with Fondant – Here’s how
For the decoration of the Fortnite cake, I chose fondant. It comes in various colors and you can cut out any shapes from it.
This is how it works:
- Cut off a piece of fondant and roll it out
- Place the prepared template on it and cut out
- Refine with tools
- Attach the fondant piece to the cake
I first covered the cake entirely with light blue color. Then I cut out a Fortnite llama, a round background, letters, clouds, and trees and distributed them on the cake.
For refining the decoration, baking tools are particularly helpful. With these, you can adjust the different fondant pieces.

The cake is finally finished! The making was not always easy, but it was fun. I am actually quite satisfied with the end product, considering that I have no great experience with cakes.
