The conflicts in World of Warcraft are escalating. In Patch 8.1.5, Baine stands against his Warchief. We reveal what happens and what consequences this might have.
A new update on the PTR of World of Warcraft brought new quest lines in Patch 8.1.5. The story continues for Horde and Alliance, and especially the followers of the Horde are feeling new conflicts within their ranks.
Spoiler Warning: This article discusses a key moment in the storyline of Patch 8.1.5. You have been warned.
Sylvanas wants to break Derek Proudmoore: In the Horde’s war campaign, players recovered the body of Derek Proudmoore, Jaina’s brother. Sylvanas then revealed her plans with Derek and resurrected him as a Forsaken. Her goal is to break Derek’s spirit and turn him into an assassin. She intends to hand Derek over to the Alliance after successfully manipulating him, hoping he will eliminate his family.
Baine betrays Sylvanas: Baine Bloodhoof, the leader of the Tauren and the “conscience” of the Horde, cannot support this plan. He stands against Sylvanas and wants to thwart her plan. Derek is freed from his captivity, and Baine establishes contact with Jaina. Since Baine and Anduin have always had an almost friendly relationship, he was able to use Valeera (Anduin’s spy) to deliver the message. He wishes to “right a wrong against the Proudmoore family” and requests a meeting off the coast of the devastated city-state of Theramore.
Derek and Jaina connect: The mentioned meeting takes place. The Forsaken Derek Proudmoore meets his living sister Jaina Proudmoore. They exchange thoughts, and Derek reveals that Sylvanas intended to use him to instill a false image of the Alliance in him. However, the reunion raises some questions, as Derek realizes he “cannot return to Kul Tiras,” and Jaina agrees that it is “not possible yet.” However, she knows people who have experienced something similar to Derek and might be of assistance.

What happens to Baine? The questline currently leaves one question open: What happens to Baine? After all, he has stolen one of Sylvanas’ greatest weapons and thus committed direct betrayal against the Warchief.
Speculations about the future: Many fans fear that Baine will be killed by Sylvanas for the betrayal, but this very act may lead to the resistance within the Horde becoming more pronounced and could spark a civil war. Others doubt this because Sylvanas knows the importance of Baine and that without him, a large part of the Horde would not follow her anymore.
It remains exciting to see how Sylvanas deals with the betrayal within her ranks.
