Metal Gear Survive had a rocky launch in the UK and debuted at number 6 in the British charts during its first week of physical sales. Twitch and YouTube are also sending negative signals.
Metal Gear Survive enters the UK charts at number 6. It was surpassed by older releases like FIFA 18, GTA V, and Monster Hunter: World.
Weaker than its predecessors from the Metal Gear series
In itself, a place in the top 10 of UK sales is not a bad result.

However, the sales figures for Metal Gear Survive were much lower compared to the other MGS games in recent years.
In its first week, it sold 85% fewer units than the spin-off Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance did in 2013.

Metal Gear Survive performs even worse compared to MGS V: The Phantom Pain.
While Metal Gear Survive only occupies number 6, MGS V: The Phantom Pain landed directly at number 1 in its first week of sales and is considered the third strongest game launch of 2015, right after Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Metal Gear Survive has now achieved only about 5% of the units sold by MGS V back then.

Final sales figures not yet available
But even if the launch week looks a bit rocky, it is just a glimpse into the UK sales figures of physical units. Because in addition to sales from other regions, digital sales such as those from the PSN are also missing.

So it remains to be seen whether Metal Gear Survive will turn things around.
Bad signals also come from Twitch and YouTube
However, it is not only the sales figures that are sending rather poor signals:
Another sign of a difficult start is the low viewer counts on Twitch, which have placed Metal Gear Survive far outside the top 50 most-watched games.
A bad sign is also that a devastating YouTube video already has 2.5 million views. The nearly five-minute video from videogamedunkey does not spare any criticism of Metal Gear Survive. The video has already garnered 2.5 million views and 143,000 thumbs up.
Opinions are divided
Nonetheless, the opinions of reviewers on Metal Gear Survive are widely divergent.
While Destructoid gives the new game from Konami only 50/100 points, it receives 80 from Push Square and Game Revolution. Other ratings fall in between.

On Steam, over 1500 user reviews show that 70% of players rated Metal Gear Survive positively. And it is currently among the top sellers on Steam within the first 20.
However, Metal Gear Survive fails to breach the top 50 on Steam with just over 5000 players at the same time.

For comparison: It is almost on par with Metal Gear 5, which has nearly 4000 players at the same time (as of February 26, 8 PM).
