The European professional league of League of Legends, LEC, has a new partner for gaming chairs. The LoL pro Martin “Wunder” Hansen explains what bothers him about the new chairs of the LEC. The interview in which he complains has since disappeared from the internet.
This is the situation in LoL: A few days ago, it was announced that “AKRacing” will be the official partner for “gaming chairs” for the European LoL League LEC in 2020. They replace DXRacer, who provided the chairs last season.
AKRacing also released a press statement expressing how excited they are about this opportunity.
Chairs are “Fucking Shit” – Interview then disappears
This was the initial reaction: Already after the first two matches, one of the top stars of LoL, Martin “Wunder” Hansen (21), complained about the new chairs. His team, G2 Esports, won both matches but did not appear as dominant as usual. The new chairs were cited as one of the reasons for the rather poor performance.
The top laner of the championship team G2 Esports said in an interview with Redbull.com that can no longer be found:
“Furthermore: The chairs we had on stage were so damn terrible (“fucking shit”). They are so bad compared to the chairs we usually have.
Normally, you can adjust the armrests and fold them to the side. But the chairs now have a fixed position: I mean, it is always difficult to play on stage, but these fixed armrests really make a difference. I am used to adjusting my monitor, chair, and other stuff when I go on stage. It is not a huge deal, but on the first day, it just felt weird.”
Martin “Wunder” Hansen in an interview with Red Bull
The interview from Wunder at Red Bull has apparently been deleted, but the interview can still be viewed in the Google cache.
There is no apparent reason why the interview was deleted – except that a LoL pro heavily criticizes the product of an official sponsor of the league.
This is how it is being discussed: On Reddit, readers take Wunder’s statement with humor. It is expected that Wunder will receive another penalty from Riot Games for this statement, as they must protect their partners. The Dane was already penalized $1,000 for being caught in an official LoL stream while playing WoW Classic.
Some users have some understanding of the criticism, but citing “chairs” as an explanation for poor performance sounds like an excuse to some.
Furthermore, it is known that G2 Esports itself has a supplier of “gaming chairs” as a partner, so Wunder’s criticism carries a special weight.
Same complaints in Overwatch
This is interesting: Some players point out that a similar problem was discussed in the Overwatch League by Blizzard.
A few months ago, a new supplier of chairs also entered the scene, which some saw as “worse than the previous ones.” And there, some pros also spoke critically about the unfamiliar chairs.
It seems professionals do not understand fun. The question is whether such discussions really reach the audience or if the effect prevails that the chairs are now often seen in streams and videos.
Apparently, it is also not well received that professionals speak negatively about products from official partners of the league.
