The first DLC for Back 4 Blood is coming. We will tell you what is known about the first major content drop.
Back 4 Blood has been released for several months now and many players are sitting on “hot coals”, wondering when the DLCs will finally start. After all, the game was sold with a Season Pass that promised a lot of new content.
Now Warner Bros. has announced that over 10 million players have checked out Back 4 Blood – and finally released details about the 1st DLC.
Tunnels of Terror – What’s in the first “Back 4 Blood” DLC
New game mode – Ridden Hives: The centerpiece of the “Tunnels of Terror” DLC will be the new game mode “Ridden Hives.” These are 7 different “dungeons” located beneath Evansbourgh and are designed to be like mazes. Here, the Cleaners will encounter new special zombies and have to complete new tasks.
However, this is not supposed to be a new campaign, but rather a completely new co-op game mode that also comes with exclusive rewards.
How exactly this mode works and what the actual goal of each round is remains to be seen.
Two new Cleaners: The 1st DLC comes with two new playable Cleaners that can be used in both the campaign and the new game mode.
- Sharice is a firefighter and has a corresponding axe with her, indicating she likely has a penchant for close combat.
- Heng is a restaurant owner – or at least he was – and is seen in the picture with a smaller axe.
Warped Ridden: There do not seem to be entirely new special zombies, but rather 3 variations of the already known zombies. These new “Warped” variations have black spikes protruding from their heads and backs, making them distinguishable from other zombies at first glance. What exactly their special abilities are is still unknown.
These Ridden will also be playable in the PvP mode “Swarm.”
More weapons, cards, and upgrades: The gameplay will also be a bit spiced up. There will be at least 15 new cards to enhance your decks. Additionally, Back 4 Blood introduces “legendary weapons” which will presumably have significantly more impact – a huge hammer that is likely wielded with both hands is seen in the preview image.
Together with the new weapons, there are also new weapon upgrades, which should also provide more variety.
What else is in the DLC? In addition to the major changes, there are also 8 new skins for the Cleaners that you can unlock. These appear to be protective suits that are likely well-suited for deep diving into the tunnels beneath the city.
Finally, there is also the new difficulty level “No Hope” – Hopeless. This is supposed to be even harder than the current nightmare mode and is free for everyone.
When will the DLC be released? The release date for the first DLC is April 12, 2022 – so you have just over a month to prepare for the new content.
Who can play the DLC? Basically, anyone who has purchased the Season Pass or buys the DLC separately later can play the DLC. However, a special feature of Back 4 Blood is that all DLC content can also be played by friends if at least one member of the group owns that content. So not everyone must buy the DLC – it’s enough for one player in the group to own the new content.
Is there no campaign? The excitement in the Back 4 Blood subreddit is high since there are finally first hints about the DLC, but it has a bittersweet taste. Because apparently, the “Tunnels of Terror” DLC contains no new campaign – and many players had hoped for that.
Whether the new game mode can make up for (possibly) missing campaign or even be more fun than the campaign remains to be seen. At least a few weeks will pass before the DLC is playable.
