The manga Hunter × Hunter has been running for 25 years. However, due to the health of its creator Yoshihiro Togashi, there are recurring longer interruptions. Now the artist has given his fans a possible ending, should he no longer be able to finish the manga himself.
What kind of manga is this? Hunter × Hunter tells the story of the boy Gon, who becomes a “Hunter” to find his missing father. Through his open-minded and positive nature, Gon quickly finds friends who accompany him on his adventures.
At first glance, Hunter × Hunter seems like a typical shōnen manga or anime, but appearances can be deceiving, as the story quickly turns surprisingly dark. It cleverly plays with familiar tropes and clichés of the genre.
The manga artist Yoshihiro Togashi has been working on his work for over 25 years. Hunter × Hunter has been published in the magazine “Shōnen Jump” since 1998 and has already been adapted into an anime twice. However, the publication was repeatedly put on hold due to the artist’s health problems. There were 4 years between the 36th and 37th volumes of the manga.
Out of fear of not being able to finish the manga himself, Togashi has now revealed a possible ending (via Jeuxvideo).
In addition to Hunter × Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho is probably Togashi’s most famous work. There will be a live-action adaptation of the manga on Netflix.
Togashi has four possible endings for Hunter × Hunter
What is the deal with the ending? In an interview, Togashi explained that he has come up with 4 possible endings for Hunter × Hunter. The ending he revealed is version D: an ending that the artist had already discarded, but that fans should consider official should he pass away before completion.

The Ending (D)
This version ends with the girl Jin, the granddaughter of Gon. She is fishing at the same lake where her grandfather's journey began, after the master of the swamp, a giant fish.
Unlike her grandfather - and contrary to her mother's wishes - she does not want to become a hunter. She dreams of never leaving her homeland, the whale island. Jin has apparently noticed how it affected her family to wait endlessly for the return of a loved one and does not want to put her relatives in this situation.
The scene ends with Jin and another child preparing the master of the swamp. Possible descendants of the characters from Hunter × Hunter are said to be visible while a person in the background observes the events.
Of the three remaining secret endings, Togashi believes that A will satisfy most of his readers, while his personal favorite may cause discontent among the fans.
However, the artist hopes to find an ending that he himself likes even better. The announcement of the possible ending is therefore likely just a precautionary measure and does not indicate an acute deterioration of his health.
It is quite possible that Togashi’s decision to reveal a possible ending was inspired by the death of his colleague Kentaro Miura on May 6, 2021. He did not have the opportunity to finish his cult manga Berserk. However, the manga is being continued by his assistants.
