Addons update WoW players through the Twitch app. But that will soon be over. This feature will be removed from the app.
Interface addons are part of World of Warcraft for most players. Whether it is boss mods like DBM, interface improvements like Bartender, or role-playing addons like Total RP 3.
Without at least one of these addons, hardly any player is on the go. Until now, all addons could be easily kept up to date through the Twitch app – but that will soon be over.
What happened? Twitch has sold CurseForge to the company Overwolf. CurseForge was previously integrated into the Twitch app and ensured that players could keep their addons up to date with just a few clicks. It was possible to install, update, or even remove all kinds of addons with just a few steps.
With the sale of CurseForge, this functionality will be removed from the Twitch app in the near future.
What does this mean for WoW players? WoW players (regardless of retail or Classic) need to prepare for the fact that they will soon not be able to use the Twitch app to install addons, such as the most important addons for WoW Classic.
They will need to download and use a new client. Alternatively, it is of course still possible to install addons individually by hand – but it is more convenient with an app.
How does updating work then? Anyone who still wants to easily update their addons will then need to install a new CurseForge client. The developers have already announced that they will take over the code from Twitch – so the basic system will not change much. There should even be more features added in the future.

However, some addons will no longer be needed in the future, because sometimes Blizzard simply “steals” addon features.
