Players continuing to play the first part of Destiny are reporting the “Tapir” error message, which blocks them from the game. This is caused by a Twitch bug.
While Destiny 2 is preparing for Season 11, there are still Guardians who regularly play the predecessor. However, this is no longer possible for some of them due to a bug.
What happened? On reddit, some players reported having problems logging into Destiny 1. They keep receiving the “Tapir” error message, which actually indicates that the game servers are offline. This message is, for example, received during server maintenance.
However, this was obviously not the case, as other players had no issues logging in. The culprit is an API bug. This bug can occur when the player’s Bungie account is linked to their Twitch account.
The corresponding reddit thread on the topic appeared on May 20 (via reddit), but some players claim in the comments that the error has existed for months.
The error itself is not serious, and not every linked account is affected. However, if you have trouble logging into Destiny 1, there is a simple fix for it.
How do I fix the error? Fortunately, this is an error that can be easily fixed.
- Open your Bungie account on bungie.net
- Go to the Settings on “Accounts & Linking”
- Remove the link to Twitch
So if you feel like a round of nostalgia in Destiny 1, perhaps because it does some things better than the sequel, you can now do so without problems. The Tapir will leave you alone once you remove the link to the Twitch account.
