The zombie event of Call of Duty: Warzone is slowly rolling out. With the playlist update on April 15, a new mechanic was introduced in the battle royale – Infested Zones that turn you into zombies. MeinMMO shows what this means for you.
What’s going on? Many players of Call of Duty: Warzone have been waiting for a new map for the big battle royale, and that the story behind it has something to do with zombies.
Now things seem to be getting underway: After the CoD creators already posted a short teaser for a supposed live event on Twitter on April 13, player-zombies were also added to the Warzone with the latest playlist update. The end of the current map may really have come, and you will feel it.
CoD Warzone: Playlist update turns players into zombies
How do you become a zombie in Warzone now? In addition to the new playlist, the zombies in Verdansk moved to the dam on Thursday evening. They have crossed the map completely during Season 2, wandering from the new location “Shipwreck” in the south to the very north.
But something is happening in the south of the map as well. The locations “Shipwreck” and “Prison” are now infested zones where you take damage if you stay in them. Your vision turns green within the area, and if you go completely down within the zones, you turn into a zombie – and that in the regular battle royale of the Warzone.
The zones are small at the start of the round but quickly enlarge. However, they currently remain as large as shown in the picture. The zones are dynamic and could also get bigger over the next week. They might also shift in the coming days. The current locations at “Shipwreck” and “Prison” were also positions of the zombie event in Season 2.
This is different as a zombie: As an undead, you can jump much higher and further, have special attacks, and make creepy noises. If you currently turn into a zombie, it does not really count as death – you end up back on the field, and if an enemy finishes you off, you reportedly even go into the Gulag. There were player-zombies before, but back then during the Halloween event.
New map becoming more likely – but not certain
What’s next? Call of Duty hinted with the teaser on Twitter on Tuesday at April 21 at 9 PM. It is not officially known what will happen at this time. However, due to leaks and rumors, there is speculation that a live event will start next Wednesday that leads to the end of the current map “Verdansk”.
Judging by the found data, a live event is set to start on Wednesday evening that ends the zombie threat in Verdansk and possibly leads to the complete destruction of the map. On Thursday morning, Season 3 of Warzone will start, and players of the battle royale can enjoy a new map – Verdansk 2.0, which takes place more than 30 years in the past.
A new in-game cinematic has likely also shown the first official image of the new map:
But these are still all leaks and speculations. If you want more background on the event and the map leak of Verdansk 2.0, check this out:
- “Nuclear bomb approaching Verdansk” – leak hints at mode or live event
- CoD Warzone hints at major changes on the old map – Will Verdansk be destroyed?
- New map of CoD Warzone was actually leaked – Activision is currently deleting everything
The puzzle pieces are slowly coming together, and indeed, a picture emerges that leakers and alleged insiders have been painting for some time: Verdansk will be destroyed by a nuclear bomb and completely replaced by a new map. With the nuke, the protagonists apparently want to counter the zombie plague that has taken over Verdansk.
The details are still up for debate, but it currently looks like we will get a new map for Call of Duty: Warzone with the start of Season 3. Another season with the “old” Verdansk and zombies is also possible, as some leakers suspect.
