Starting February 25, Pearl Abyss, the developer of Black Desert, will take over the distribution in Europe and North America. As a result, you will need to adjust your account and transfer it to Pearl Abyss. We at MeinMMO will explain how to do that.
What’s going on? Already in December 2020, Pearl Abyss announced during an event that they will take over the distribution of Black Desert themselves. However, the account that you initially created with the previous publisher Kakao Games must be transferred.
The transfer itself is quite simple, but there is a time limit, and those who miss it will lose their entire account.
By when must the account be transferred? You have until May 31, 2021, to do so. That sounds long at first, but the sooner you react, the better.
You can make the transfer on the official Black Desert website. We will explain step by step what you need to do.
How to transfer your account in Black Desert
You follow the link above and first click on “Transfer data to the account at Pearl Abyss”. After that, you need to specify whether you created a regular account or one via Steam. The steps are slightly different.
How to transfer a regular account: After clicking on the corresponding button, you need to create an account with Pearl Abyss. This can theoretically be done with the same or a different email address. Be sure that you need to verify your email.
After creation, you need to log in and start the transfer process. Here too, make sure to complete all the steps.
You can see whether the transfer has really been requested when you receive the appropriate email from Kakao Games:
Transfer a Steam account: If you have a Steam account, you save yourself the registration with Pearl Abyss, but log in directly to the site with your Steam account.
After logging in, you only need to click the button “Agree to the transfer”.
What else is important?
- With the account transfer, all characters and content of the account are transferred, including pearls
- If you own multiple accounts, you must transfer each of them
- Also, be aware that Pearl Abyss offers multiple games, including Black Desert Mobile and Shadow Arena. Therefore, you may have already created an account with Pearl Abyss.

Longer Downtime on February 24 and 25
What else happens during the publisher switch? On February 24, the game service at Kakao Games will end at 10:00 AM. The service at Pearl Abyss, on the other hand, will not start until February 25 at 11:00 PM. You will have to do without Black Desert for about one and a half days.
Furthermore, if you request the data transfer only after February 24, you may have to wait several hours before the service at Pearl Abyss functions. Therefore, it is advisable to carry out the transfer as early as possible.
You should also note that the publisher switch will also involve adjustments to the servers. Current node wars and conquests will be reset, for example.
Black Desert 2021 – Is it worth it?
If you are currently considering whether to start playing Black Desert this year, you should hold off until the publisher switch. There may be discounts or bonuses for newcomers during this transition.
