Trion Worlds is so convinced of the turn-based MOBA Atlas Reactor that it made it a Buy-to-Play game. But now it seems to be backtracking a bit.
Originally, Atlas Reactor was supposed to launch as a Free-to-Play game. However, the Alpha was received so well by testers, and the management at Trion Worlds was so convinced of the game that it made it a Buy-to-Play game. But it seems they aren’t entirely sure about it either. Perhaps they fear that many players won’t notice the game among all the other MOBAs and tactical online games. Because now they announced they will introduce a free game mode.
Buy-to-Play and still free?
This means you can download Atlas Reactor for free and also play for free. Sounds like Free-to-Play? Kind of. However, there are limitations. You cannot access all the so-called Freelancers – the heroes in the game – and you are bound to the rotation, playing with the characters that are currently offered. During battles, you win so-called “Reward Caches” that contain cosmetic items, skins, emotes, titles, icons, and more. However, you can only open a limited number of Reward Caches within a given time.
No limitations with purchase
If you want to access all heroes and be free from any additional limitations, you can purchase Atlas Reactor for 20 dollars. Then you own the game with all its content. Currently, the tactical turn-based game is still in an Early Access phase, which is free anyway, but ends in seven days. This way, you can already get a feel for the game.
Atlas Reactor aims to bring more strategy to the otherwise action-packed MOBAs and therefore relies on a turn-based combat system that somewhat resembles the XCom series.
