A pirate without a ship won’t get far in the survival MMO Atlas. If you want a decent ship, you have to build it yourself. We’ll show you how to do it.
The Skills: If you want to build your ship, you first need the right skills. The skill system in Atlas is somewhat more complex, so skill points should be invested in various talent trees. In the Survivalism tree, you should allocate your first points as follows:
- The Basics: 1 point
- Tools of Trade: 1 point
- Construction Unlock: 2 points
- Advanced Tools: 8 points
In the Construction tree, which is unlocked by the Construction Unlock skill, you will learn the following abilities:
- Basics of Building: 1 point
- Weaving: 2 points
- Secrets of Building: 2 points
- Seamanship Unlock: 2 points

In the now unlocked Seamanship skill tree, you can learn everything a sailor’s heart desires, including the various ships. However, for starters, you will need:
- Basics of Sailing: 1 point
- Shipwright: 1 point
Once you have allocated all your skills, you gain access to all necessary objects and buildings. At level 11, you should definitely have 21 points left. Now the shipbuilding can begin!
The Basics: First, build a Smithy and a Loom. At the Smithy, you will process 240 Fiber, 105 Stone, 420 Thatch, and 840 Wood into a Small Shipyard. Place the Shipyard in the sea. Be careful that there is enough space underneath the Shipyard, or a ship might get damaged when setting sail.
You can use the Shipyard like a workstation. Approach it and press the “E” key. At the beginning, you will be able to build a Sloop, the smallest ship besides the raft and dinghy. Build the framework of the ship at the Shipyard with 1,390 Fiber, 70 Hide, 12 Metal, 1,198 Thatch, and 1,460 Wood. Now you have to place the necessary objects on the framework to make the ship seaworthy.
This includes 12 planks, a deck, the steering wheel, and two small or one medium sail. All individual parts can be crafted at the Smithy and the Loom. For the entire Sloop, you will need:
- 800 Fiber.
- 1060 Wood.
- 843 Thatch.
- 60 Hide.
- Up to 28 Metal.
The material costs vary slightly depending on the type of sail.
Now it’s time to decorate: When building the basic ship, you have no option to make changes except for the type of sails. However, once the ship is equipped with all necessary objects, you can let your imagination run wild. Every ship can be further optimized with the normal building parts from base building at your leisure. This does not change the values but contributes to the individuality of each ship.
At sea, even large galleons can sink quickly:
