A few days ago, there was a heated discussion under a MeinMMO article about Destiny 2. At what age can parents allow their children to play the shooter?
What was it about? In one of our articles on MeinMMO, we reported on an event in the Destiny 2 community. Two Twitch streamers helped a boy reach the highest rank in PvP.
However, the boy was reportedly only 9 years old, even though he behaved politely in the game and performed well. Moreover, his father was heard on the stream, so this apparently happened with the parents’ consent. A fact that was received with mixed feelings by our readers.
Several of our readers criticized that the boy is playing the shooter at such a young age, as Destiny 2 is rated USK16 in Germany. Others defended the boy and said that parents must decide for themselves what they allow and what not.
Reality and recommendations are far apart
A large part of the games released in our time appears in many different countries. These countries often have their own rating systems for age, by which they classify the games. This results in ratings that often differ:
- According to the German USK and the European “Pan European Game Information” (PEGI) rating, Destiny 2 is rated for ages 16 and up.
- In the USA, it is rated T for “Teen” by the “Entertainment Software Rating Board” (ESRB): that is from 13 years old.
As you all know, reality often looks different. It is not uncommon to encounter kids who are not yet 13, let alone 16, during online sessions. Just like in the article mentioned above.
We want to know your opinion: Which age classification do you find reasonable for Destiny 2? Should one always adhere to the recommended age ratings? Or can parents who are well informed decide for themselves which games their children can play?
