ROG Ally X: Differences from ROG Ally
What differences are there? The ROG Ally differs significantly from its predecessor, the ROG Ally. We summarize all the similarities and differences for you.
Design and Ergonomics:
- The ROG Ally X is black and no longer white.
- The grips are rounder and the trigger buttons are wider.
- The ROG Ally X weighs slightly more than its predecessor (70 grams).
- ASUS uses Hall effect joysticks in the Ally X, which are said to be better against stick drift.
RAM, Storage, and Connections:
- The battery is twice as large (40 WHrs vs 80 WHrs).
- The RAM is larger (16 vs 24 GB) and faster (6,400 MT/s vs 7,500 MT/s).
- The storage is larger, and ASUS has opted for an M.2 2280 SSD, which is significantly more common than the M2 2242 SSD found in the ROG Ally.
- Thunderbolt 4 instead of XG-Mobile interface: The proprietary connector for ROG XG Mobile eGPUs has been removed, and instead, a USB-C connector with Thunderbolt 4 has been used.
What remains the same?
- The display remains an IPS display with 120 Hz, 16:9 aspect ratio, and Full HD resolution.
- The Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor remains identical.
- The ROG Ally continues to use Windows 11.
