The new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a lot to offer – but a multiplayer mode is not included. However, you can still help friends.
For many players, the reveal of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is one of the big game announcements of the year. Plundering as an assassin in a Viking setting at war with England sounds like an exciting scenario and a breath of fresh air for the series. However, some fans were concerned that the game might lean too heavily towards multiplayer. This has now been denied by Ubisoft.
Does Assassin’s Creed Valhalla have a multiplayer mode? No. According to a developer statement to Eurogamer, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is meant to be a “single-player game with many online components.” Each player experiences their own campaign and must complete it alone. However, some features are supposed to be shareable through online components, allowing benefits for oneself and others.

Here’s how you can help friends: One of the advertised features is the ability to create your own Viking mercenary and upload it. Other players (like your friends) can then hire this mercenary and use them during their raids. So, even though you are not actively involved, at least you have a strong NPC on the front lines in your friends’ battles. And the best part: A portion of the loot your mercenary earns will be credited to you in your game.
This way, players can help each other without actually sharing a game environment or directly intervening in the action.
Will there be a proper multiplayer? As of now, no. There are no statements from the developers suggesting that a multiplayer mode for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is planned in the future. The game will primarily be a pure single-player experience with minor online features.
What does this mean for Assassin’s Creed on MeinMMO? Since the game has a clear focus on single-player, we at MeinMMO will not extensively cover the game. We primarily focus on games with a significant multiplayer component. However, if you want more news and information about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, console players can turn to our colleagues at GamePro, and PC players at GameStar.
Are you looking forward to another Assassin’s Creed as a single-player experience? Or would you have preferred a comprehensive co-op campaign?
