The release of new WoW content is being critically discussed. Even the biggest WoW streamer believes that Blizzard is making a mistake. Because Shadowlands (WoW) is competing against Naxxramas (WoW Classic).
For fans of World of Warcraft and the classic version of the game, golden times are coming soon. Not only is the new expansion Shadowlands being released, but the final raid Naxxramas will also be launched in the “old” version. It is considered to be the toughest that Classic has to offer. However, the release dates of both contents could become a problem and split the player base. At least that’s what WoW streamer Asmongold fears.
What is the problem? World of Warcraft Shadowlands will start on November 24, 2020. In Retail WoW, there should be excitement again, because typically numerous players return at the launch of a new expansion. The first real raid, Castle Nathria, will be released on December 8 in heroic and on December 15 in mythic variant.
At the same time, Naxxramas, the last major raid, will be released in WoW Classic. This will take place on December 3.
WoW fans will have to focus on one of the two games, as both games will be releasing their new content around the same time.
Asmongold sees a problem: The well-known WoW streamer Asmongold has released a video in which he shares his opinion on the release of WoW content. He assumed that Blizzard’s plan was to release content in Retail and Classic “in turns.” While there might currently be a content drought in Retail, one could tackle a new raid in Classic and vice versa.
After all, there is a larger group of players who enjoy playing both WoW versions. They now have to decide whether they want to be forefront in Shadowlands or take on Naxxramas in Classic.
Especially Naxxramas is a special case here, because the raid was the finale of Classic. Additionally, the original Naxxramas was only playable for a short time, as the raid disappeared with the release of Wrath of the Lich King.
According to Asmongold, Blizzard is shooting itself in the foot here, because players now have to decide which WoW content they want to experience freshly – and that could diminish the anticipation for both.
At least on YouTube, Asmongold is receiving a lot of support for his opinion, but the topic is also being discussed sporadically in the WoW subreddit.
Even professional raiders have a problem with the release of the raids in WoW: Shadowlands:
