The Twitch streamer Asmongold talks about raiding in World of Warcraft and why he no longer enjoys it. There is no incentive.
Although raids in World of Warcraft are among the best content, this content is often only experienced by a fraction of the player base. After all, active raiding requires time and a reliable group, unless you venture into the LFR, which requires hardly any skill.
However, not everyone enjoys the raids – including the Twitch streamer Asmongold, who has recently found quite drastic words about raiding in World of Warcraft.
Who is speaking? Asmongold was a passionate WoW player for many years and the biggest streamer of the game overall, but has distanced himself more and more from it in recent months. Nowadays, he plays other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV or New World. However, he still occasionally talks about World of Warcraft when questions arise in the chat or the developers release something new.
What has Asmongold said? Asmongold now seems quite jaded towards raiding. The thought of raiding again does not bring him joy. He now reduces this content to few words:
Raiding is still fun? I wouldn’t agree, raiding is not fun at all. Raiding is mostly just waiting for the dumbest player in the group to understand [the boss], while simultaneously making sure not to accidentally make a mistake yourself.
An experience that many players have probably had. After all, bosses in the harder versions of the raids (heroic and mythic) are often designed in such a way that a single death in a group of 10 players can already result in the fight not being successfully completed.
Additionally, there is another Twitch clip in which Asmongold explains that over the years he simply lost his joy for raiding:
Furthermore: I would look forward to raiding much more if there was a goal. Because what is the goal of raiding? The goal of raiding is simply to finish the raid and then you get nothing. It doesn’t really help you and when the [next] patch comes out, everything is replaced. All the work you put in is basically erased.
One of the big things for me was in Burning Crusade or Classic WoW. I wanted to raid and the crazy thing was that I wanted to visit Naxxramas to get gear for Burning Crusade.
Some people note that Asmongold contradicts himself a bit. Because raiding as preparation for the upcoming patch is basically the same as raiding for the next expansion.
For many players, however, raids are an end in themselves – a game content that is simply fun, even if the items received eventually become useless and are replaced. Many simply enjoy the challenges of boss fights or the collaborative effort towards a goal.
