Since Saturday, Ashes of Creation Apocalypse is free to play for everyone. However, the community is not completely satisfied with the implementation. They see problems mainly in the animations and monetization.
The PvP game Apocalypse is intended to serve as a test environment for the developers. The servers and the combat system are to be thoroughly tested.
However, the real test is currently the bond between the community and developer Intrepid Studios.
Criticism of Movements and Microtransactions
What players criticize: The focus of the criticism is particularly on the shop that has been integrated into the free game. In this, you can purchase a Battle Pass and other cosmetic items.
Other players also criticize the movement system of Ashes of Creation Apocalypse. Some animations feel off, and there are occasional issues especially when jumping.
While you can gain significant height in the game by jumping, it is not possible to achieve that height directly in front of a mountain or a house. You also need to maintain a distance from the object to reach a certain height.
However, fans dismiss the movement issues as a rough start and the fact that the game is primarily a beta for the actual MMORPG.
What are players afraid of? Although no purchased items provide an advantage in the game itself, some items only minimally change the current character and can cost up to 20 Euros. On Reddit, players are already announcing they might turn their backs on the game due to these prices.
Many are disappointed, especially after the Kickstarter campaign and the rather expensive founder packages, that the “beta test” is so heavily monetized.
Since the content can also be transferred to the MMORPG, players fear: The shop could look similar in the later MMORPG.
What can you buy in the shop? For 10 Euros, you can purchase the “Legendary Path”. With this system, you can earn additional rewards on the normal Adventure Path every day. These mainly include extra XP, various cosmetic adjustments for equipment, or emotes.
Additionally, there are further skins in the shop that can only be purchased for real money:
- Emotes cost between 4 and 6 Euros
- Armor between 15 and 20 Euros
- Weapon sets for 16 Euros each
- Griffin skins for 10 or 20 Euros
