The MMORPG hope Ashes of Creation presents 30 minutes of new gameplay, and one of the largest MMORPGs of the year has received its October update – with surprisingly little content. All the news of the week summarized in MeinMMO’s weekly recap.
The highlights of the week:
- Lost Ark brings the next big monthly update. While there are some challenging tasks in it, there is in itself quite little content.
- New World presents its roadmap for 2023. The MMORPG wants to continue working on crafting, transmog, new professions, and large events.
- Ashes of Creation shows 30 minutes of new gameplay. Founder Steven Sharif mostly talks about crafting and resource gathering in AoC. This strongly resembles New World (via YouTube).
The controversy of the week: In WoW, Patch 10.0 was on the way and did not come without problems. The release was delayed by several hours and many players experienced lag in the MMORPG after the update.
The discussion of the week: Solo content in MMORPGs is a topic. But does it save the genre, or does it kill it once and for all? This question has been taken up by our author Anny.
Just last week, New World brought Brimstone Sands, the largest update so far:
World of Warcraft makes an 18-year-old meme a reality
What happened with the big MMORPGs:
- In World of Warcraft, some restrictions that tied specific classes to a specific race have been lifted. This makes an 18-year-old meme true: The Tauren rogue.
- Lost Ark launched its autumn event with the October update, which is set to run until December 7. This brings a completely new island with new achievements.
- Final Fantasy XIV names a new NPC after the famous streamer Asmongold – at least he thinks so.
- With the Firesong DLC, Elder Scrolls Online receives 9 new sets that are supposed to bring fresh wind to Magicka builds.
- The new “Black Desert” update is meanwhile struggling with some bugs at release (via mmorpg.com).
What happened with the small MMORPGs:
- The MMORPG AdventureQuest3D launched a Halloween event, with a somewhat too revealing title image – and was promptly removed from the app stores.
- The anime MMORPG Ragnarok Online may be familiar to some. Ragnarok Begins is supposed to play in the same universe and tell the beginning of everything.
- PSO2: New Genesis launches a new autumn event and also brings new skills and even player housing to the MMORPG (via massivelyop).
- Dual Universe wants to celebrate its 1st month after release with a big event and a construction event (via massivelyop).
- The MMORPG Broken Ranks is launching a Halloween event where you have to kill a lot of undead (via mmorpg.com).
- Path of Exile is delaying its November update to December due to technical issues (via mmorpg.com).
- Diablo Immortal is closing some servers and merging them with others. There will also be free server transfers for affected players (via mmorpg.com).
- Neverwinter is changing its spooky spider temple for the upcoming Northdark Reaches module (via massivelyop).
Scars of Honor shows insights into its lore:
Scars of Honor shows us exclusive images from the alpha
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Scars of Honor strongly resembles World of Warcraft. Currently, an alpha is underway that is actually under confidentiality. However, we were allowed to share some images exclusively.
- The MMORPG Frozen Flame is launching an open beta this weekend and is set to start early access soon (via massivelyop).
- Still without a fixed date, the PvE MMORPG Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is announcing several game tests for November (via massivelyop).
- Former employees of Mythic and BioWare have started the new studio Loric Games and want to focus on survival MMOs with a lot of story (via mmorpg.com).
- Also, Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, the studio behind Guild Wars 2, has founded a new game studio called Crop Circle Games, which is said to have already received a $25 million investment. What they are currently working on has not yet been revealed (via mmorpg.com).
- A list of all MMOs that should still be released in 2022 and have already been released has also been prepared for you this week.
These were the MMORPG news of the week at a glance. What is your own highlight? Did you experience something interesting or exciting this week that you would like to share? Or did we perhaps forget something important? Feel free to write it in the comments here at MeinMMO.
This week our MMORPG author Mark Sellner was disappointed, who wanted to write something good about the new action MMORPG Dekaron G, but simply cannot.
