Ashes of Creation is currently an interesting MMORPG in development, created by former employees of Daybreak Studios (Everquest Next).
The developers want to immerse you in a world that changes, and you are significantly involved in these changes. In a new developer diary, this game system has been introduced in more detail, which includes so-called “Nodes”.
In the game world, there are special locations carefully placed by the developers. Quests and tasks will lead you to these “Nodes”, which at first may not appear to be anything special. At these locations, you will defeat monsters or explore a dungeon – just as you know from other MMOs.
Your activities determine how areas develop
However, the area records the activities of the players. Everything that happens near a “Node” is noted and evaluated. This way, players determine how a “Node” develops.
If there is little activity, it remains a wilderness full of dangers. However, it can also develop into a small village. Whether this village then develops into a thriving city also depends on what the players do in the village. If they focus more on military matters, the city will be characterized by military presence. A focus on economy will lead to a trading center.
Nodes will naturally differ from each other. In one place, it makes more sense to create a flourishing trading center due to many resources. In another place, a strong military presence is sensible, as the location is of strategic importance.
This will inevitably lead to conflicts between players, as not everyone will agree with the development of an area. Entire wars can arise from this, for example, if a new trade “Node” emerges next to their own important trade “Node” that becomes a competitor. As Nodes can also be destroyed, open battles can occur.
Will you be the leader?
Once a Node becomes a village, this village must also be managed, for which players can volunteer. Leaders gain power and influence, and the further the Node is developed, the more powerful the leaders will become. This makes it possible to build a complete kingdom, which, however, must always be defended against external and internal dangers.
Even quests change depending on the status of a Node. A new dungeon may be discovered, new monsters may appear, a zone becomes a raid area. And all of this you will determine in the MMORPG Ashes of Creation.
The MMORPG Ashes of Creation is currently still in a very early development phase. A Kickstarter campaign is planned for this year, which will secure the funding of the game.
Many ideas sound like “Everquest Next.” The former head behind the project, Dave Georgeson, tweeted after the shutdown of Landmark:
To those reading about the LM shutdown. Your dreams aren’t dying, only this vehicle for them. Stay in touch with each other. Friends > game.
