Ashes of Creation is still in a closed alpha phase. From December, however, all players will be able to play a new version of the MMORPG. The PvP content used for stress tests will be released as a standalone free-to-play game called “Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse”.
What is Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse? During a livestream event on October 31, the developers of Ashes of Creation announced that they want to release their current PvP content as a standalone game.
This will be called Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse and will be free to play. Current testers are already able to try it out while all other players will have access to the content starting in December.
What PvP modes will there be? Three game modes are planned for the spin-off of Ashes of Creation:
- first, there is the Battle Royal mode, which originally was not supposed to be further developed.
- there is also a Castle Siege mode, in which a castle must be captured
- and the Horde mode, where 50 players defend a town
Will the new game help me progress? It should be possible to transfer progress into the actual MMORPG Ashes of Creation via Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse. Collected experience should be transferable to the main game.
Additionally, one should be able to unlock cosmetic content, achievements, and even furniture through the PvP spin-off. However, the biggest benefit will be for the developers themselves, as they can thoroughly test the PvP, server performance, and balance.
The community sees the announcement divided
How players are reacting: The community of Ashes of Creation sees the move as divided. Especially players who are not in the alpha are looking forward to trying out the MMO. However, other players fear that the focus of development could shift.
If the spin-off is already successful enough, Ashes of Creation could develop into a purely PvP game, and other content might simply be left behind. Even if this does not happen, development could be delayed because resources are needed for the free-to-play game. Whether a release by 2020 will still be possible is questionable.
