In summer, the next big update for the online game No Man’s Sky called Beyond will be released. This is expected to significantly expand the multiplayer mode, which sounds like “MMO” to many.
What does the Beyond update bring? As has become standard with the developers at Hello Games, they are keeping details about the updates under wraps. Usually, you only find out what exactly is in the package at release.
It’s similar with “Beyond”. However, Hello Games explained that “No Man’s Sky Online” will offer a radically new social and multiplayer experience. You can meet players throughout the universe and interact with them. The exact nature of this interaction is still unclear.
Presumably, you will be able to:
- Build structures
- Engage in space battles
- Explore planets
- Fight against aliens
A huge update for multiplayer and VR fans
Is No Man’s Sky Online a standalone game? Due to the name, some players thought that Hello Games would release an additional game with No Man’s Sky Online. However, that is not the case, it is a regular update for the main game that you will be able to download for free upon release in summer, just like the other updates.
What else is known about Beyond? Based on a trailer, it is now known that you can also play No Man’s Sky in VR with the Beyond update, via Steam VR and PlayStation VR. This is expected to lead to a more immersive gaming experience, which many fans are excited about.
On Reddit, there is a nice story about this: A user who has since deleted their account mentioned that when his wife was pregnant, he named two planets in No Man’s Sky. One male and one female, as the couple did not want to know whether the child would be a boy or a girl.
The player is now extremely excited to soon roam in VR on the planet named after his now-born daughter.
What do players wish for Beyond? Since Hello Games tends to keep things under wraps with new updates, players are of course listing on Reddit what they would like to see in Beyond.
- Better and more diverse characters for players
- Players wish to be able to form guilds
- Community missions and bosses for groups
- Co-op and group content
- Factions to belong to
- New planets
- Revised fauna
- Improved combat
- “Livelier” NPCs that give quests
- Customizations for ships
Will No Man’s Sky now become an MMO?
Are we expecting an MMO now? Enhanced multiplayer possibilities already sound very much like an MMO. Even though the developers explain that they do not consider No Man’s Sky to be an MMO even after the update because it has neither a subscription nor microtransactions.
There are a lot of players in the vast galaxy of No Man’s Sky. If they could meet and interact with each other, it would come very close to an MMO.
When will we learn more? As mentioned before, Hello Games tends to hold back information until the update is released. Therefore, we will probably have to wait until summer.
