As a pre-event of Shadowlands, WoW players experience a new Scourge invasion

The undead from World of Warcraft are in an uproar. A Scourge Invasion 2.0 is coming soon. What does that mean?

When World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was revealed with a spectacular cinematic, the atmosphere was tense. Instead of crowning herself as the Lich Queen, Sylvanas shattered the Helm of the Lich King and broke the law that “There must always be a Lich King”. The consequences of this will be felt by players, as the Scourge invasion will be the pre-event for Shadowlands!

Why are the undead going berserk? In the story, both Arthas and Bolvar ensured, with a last spark of their humanity, that the undead Scourge did not ravage the entire world. For it would supposedly be a rush that Azeroth could not withstand and would likely annihilate the mortal races of the world.

What happens in the pre-event? There are no exact details about the pre-event yet. However, it seems likely that the event will generally resemble the incidents of the Legion invasions, with many areas of the world being overrun. Hazzikostas has already stated that the event is intended to bring players up to speed with the current state of the story and to “bring a few side characters up to max level.” This sounds at least comparable to the Legion’s assault, which at the time granted many players numerous level-ups.

Afterward, the players will likely push back these invasions and advance into Icecrown. From there, the undead will storm across the entire world. The heroes will be able to pinpoint the source of this assault.

There is not yet a specific date for the pre-event. However, WoW: Shadowlands is expected to be released very late in 2020. So, no one should expect it before late summer.

A Scourge invasion like in WotLK? It is still unknown whether the Scourge invasion is reminiscent of the event from the days of Wrath of the Lich King. Back then, players could be infected and then turned into undead. These, in turn, could infect other players and slowly but surely turn the entire server into undead. It was one of the funniest but also one of the most annoying events in WoW’s history.
